Virtua Fighter is a 3D fighting game series developed by Sega studio AM2. All characters in the game use weaponless real world fighting techniques.

Virtua Fighter (1993)

Ryona:
  • Two female characters out of a roster of eight fighters, and a female, playable boss character.
  • Each character has three to seven throws, including some wrestling and bonecracking moves, but no submission-type holds.
  • Each character has at least two moves against lying opponents, but for some fighters two share the same animation.
  • Each character has two costumes.

Characters:
  • Pai Chan is a martial arts action movie star in her hometown, and her fighting style is Mizongyi.
  • Sarah Bryant is a college student from San Francisco, CA, and her fighting style is Jeet Kune Do.
  • Dural, the boss character, is a cyborg, and she uses a combination of the most powerful moves of all other characters. She is only covered by reflective chrome on her entire skin.

  • Replay mode to watch saved matches. The replay mode features five freely changeable viewing angles, including first person views.

Ryona:
  • Four female characters out of a roster of fifteen fighters, and a female, playable boss character.
  • Mosts characters have more than ten throws each, some throw experts even about thirty, including some wrestling moves, bonecracking moves and combo-throws, but no submission-type holds.
  • Each character has at up to five moves against lying opponents.
  • Four characters also have throws against lying opponents.
  • Certain attacks can cause so called "crumble". Depending on where the hit connected the struck character either holds his head, stomach, foot, chin, groin or back while slowly falling down and are extremely vulnerable to additional hits during a crumble.
  • Each character has two costumes, and can be further customized by predefined items for each character.
  • Replay mode to watch saved matches.

Characters:
  • Aoi Umenokoji is a student from Japan, and her fighting style is Aiki Ju-Jutsu. Aoi has lots of bone-breaking throws, especially against lying opponents.
  • Pai Chan is a martial arts action movie star in her hometown, and her fighting style is Mizongyi.
  • Sarah Bryant is a college student from San Francisco, CA, and her fighting style is general 'Martial Arts', which includes Savate, Taekwondo and Karate style.
  • Vanessa Lewis is a security guard of unknown origin, and her fighting style is Vale Tudo.
  • Dural, the boss character, is a cyborg, and she uses a combination of the most powerful moves of all other characters. She is only covered by reflective chrome on her entire skin.
