Hi Folks,

Milestone 1 is now online :) In the update is also a link for the bloodless version.

I've mapped the sprite sheets for Doom II and the Archvile is nuts! 6 walking frames, 10 attack frames, 10 death frames.
Id really loved that one :)

It's been a busy week and I did not get much work done, but I've got sketches for most Doom 2 monsters:

Still missing are the Pain Elemental and the Arachnotron. Well, and animating & rendering the whole bunch ;)

Whoa MZZ this is to good to be true. Awesome what you are up to. I've got much love for the old Doom game and your modification is just what I desire to see. Much kudos.

I've played some levels with good old doom now and its awesome with your zakos mod, I had loads of fun, thanks a lot for the share again. You did pay good attention to the detail and its great if you move around a body the view angels change in various degrees and its HQ sprites as well very nifty.

The voices you've put in fit just perfectly and also the volume is right spot-on not to high not to low just right. One suggestion I'd like to make is the generic sound that tells the player that monster(s) are nearby which is still vanilla (this hrrrhh), maybe a female replacement-sound for that? Unsure what would be fitting though, maybe even put in a silent replacement though that would change the game to a little degree that the player will never get this kinda warning thus probably mute it isn't such a great idea.

I shall play more in the next days and give further thoughts/feedback if there comes any useful in mind. Up to now all is superb.

Finally I've got some screencaps for the fun of it to share.
(i tagged them as adult content as I uploaded so they won't be removed from the hoster, might result in getting porn ads pop-up, i hope not)


And as special thanks to MZZ for your splendid work I fancied to do some icons nothing special but not to bad either I hope. Attached to this post 3 icons in 32bit 256 dpi.

Development slowed down a bit because I'm upgrading my computer and have to re-install the everything.

Credit for the sounds goes to Saints Row 3 and Weoooo for helping extracting them :)

Played some more and its sweet indeed. Just one thing I didn't enjoy that much is the flying metal thing guess it replaces the lost soul (the flying flame skulls)?

The sprite is alright I just mean the sound when it gets hit, I would like to request to lower its volume a little maybe -20% or -30%, but thats probably just me.

I also would like to request if its possible to get some nice high-resolution render of the cute zake babes? In-game you have not much chance to admire their beauty well unless they are dead lying around *hehe*

Will start to play Zako_MS1_Draft7 soon, just like to finish the episode I'm playing now. Fine work so far, congrats to all of you who helped and of course thank you.

yes, thats the lost soul replacement. I'll have a look at the sound files, should be easy enough to fix (even for me :D)

About the update, I'm back on track with the Mancubus,Pain Elemental and Archvile (246 frigging frames!).
I did mess up the order and did the Arachnotron too early in draft 6.
New sounds will have to wait for the final release. (When I'm waiting for the HQ renderings anyway)
Missing in the cast are the Revenant and the Wolfenstein SS Trooper.

The previews are alredy very nice just some higher resolution and we have what I was asking for. Maybe some png images simply the zako gals like you display in the previews at high(er) resolution.

Oh the mod should work with all map packs that use vanilla monsters. Put both wads in your startup paramaters and you should be good to go:
doom2.exe -file PLUTONIA.WAD zako.wad

Had to link it externaly as the file size is now finally to big for the forum. Oops :grin:
New are the Revenant and Wolfenstein Monster. The latter is a bit of a joke, as like in the original.
I've also turned down the volume a little on the Lost Souls samples.

Sound work for the new monsters is still on the to-do list.

Great news, thanks for updated version.

In the Zako_MS1_Draft7 it was I guess if the player dies and some splatter death animation was played it occurs sometimes he (the player model) screamed in one of the Zako voices not a problem but I thought I report it.

Yes, this is since I started replacing the sounds. Also when you quit the game there is a chance that a female sound is played.
The reason is that the engine pulls from a pool of sounds that belong to the monsters. With the replacements, there is a chance you get one of the new sounds. Thats the doylist answer. The watsonian answer is, maybe you are a zako too ;)

Yes, I just uploaded the update! The new computer really helps with the render times ;)
I've updates also several of the old sprites with higher resolutions (thus the jump from ~100mb to ~130mb).
Please let me know if I messed up the scaling and specific monsters appear to tall or small.
