Hello
TurboSnike
. Welcome to the Undertow forum.
It's like my characters won't save after I close the game.
This usually happens because:
- SDT saves characters using Shared Object storage.
- Some internet browsers (and/or antivirus programs) will automatically delete Shared Objects when a browser session ends. This is done for the sake of security (eliminating any personal information), tidiness (reclaiming hard disk space), or privacy (it's a shared computer and I don't want anybody to discover my porn!).
- You're playing SDT in your web browser, possibly in conjunction with an "Incognito Mode" or similar feature.
The simplest solution is to use the standalone
Flash Player Projector application instead of running SDT within a browser window. If you find that your characters are
still being deleted, then you'll need to identify the application which is deleting them. After you've done that, you can try to setup a whitelist exemption.
Alternatively, you could install the
SDT Loader -- assuming that you're currently running the vanilla game. The Loader can use "Character Folders", which are described in the
Newbie Guide. These are character definitions which reside in subfolders within your SDT folder; they're independent of the SOL stuff and so they aren't susceptible to automatic removal. There's a learning curve for Character Folders. They're more tricky to setup than vanilla saved characters because they involve out-of-game file manipulation and text editing (instead of clicking a single "Save Character" button). But they also give you more control over the order of mod-loading, and they support a wider variety of mods.
The Loader is
not a complete solution to your troubles. It will allow you to create persistent characters, but if the game can't use SOL storage then its miscellaneous options (such as volume control and graphics quality) will always be reset between gameplay sessions. You'll also be unable to fully enjoy some of the more advanced mods such as
Slave Bazaar. I encourage you to investigate and resolve the SOL storage issue,
regardless of whether or not you decide to install the Loader.
