Hello
D
DarioButch
. Welcome to the Undertow forum.
I need help loading a downloaded char, i cant get it to work, so how do i do this?
It depends on what you've downloaded. You might have a custom PNG hairstyle, in which case you load that file in-game (click the "Modding" tab of the in-game menu, then click the "Hair ..." button and finally choose your new file via the Browse window). But you might have a prepared folder containing various TXT and SWF files - in which case you'll need to move the character's folder into your
\Mods\ subfolder and then mention it in your
Mods\CharacterFolders.txt file.
Please note that the second option won't be available if you're running the
vanilla game. You'll need to be using the
SDT Loader (or one of the many available Loader packs) in order to benefit from character folders. You can find more information in the
Newbie Guide.
But even if you're following the steps correctly, you might also run into technical difficulty. For example, if you're trying to play the game in a web browser window (because
"it's a Flash thing and Flash runs in web browsers, right?") then your browser might block the game from accessing your local filesystem - which means that you'd be unable to open any PNG and SWF files. We
recommend using the
Flash Player projector application instead of web browsers.
If you find yourself confused or stuck then please try to provide as much information as possible about the problem. An in-game screenshot is always useful, and you can supplement it with hyperlinks (to a mod which you're trying to install, or a character which you're attempting to load, or a page of instructions whose images have gone missing).
We're happy to offer support, but SDT modding is a fairly broad topic -- so a very broad statement such as
"I can't get it to work" or
"I need help" isn't the best way to proceed. It's preferable to tell us about the specific goal that you're trying to achieve, or the troubleshooting steps that you've attempted, or the errors messages which you've encountered, or the other mods which you're already running, or the point at which the instructions ceased to make sense. Additional information will help us to understand the problem more quickly and therefore solve it more quickly.
