The continent of Rigel is a land as ancient as it is deadly and dangerous. Sprawling human kingdoms cover much of the landscape, ruled by power hungry tyrants and nobles who have no qualm with sacrificing the lives of their expendable subjects to achieve their goals. In the shadows, powerful criminal syndicates deal in blood and treat human life with little to no value. Powerful wizards and sorceresses rule over evil cults seeking to increase their power, and mercenaries with little scruple kill whoever or whatever stands in their way for their next payment. Rigel is a wretched place with an even further wretched populace, where the only way to lead a fruitful life is to have been born into nobility.

Those wishing to escape a life of meager peasantry often try and become adventurers. With dreams of gold and glory in hand, these adventurers set out into the world. They defend the common-folk, fight against bandits and monsters, and make a name for themselves in a world full of bloodshed and misery. While many adventurers fail, some go on to accomplish great deeds, and tales of their heroism reach across tavern to tavern, inspiring all who hear them.

Unfortunately, you are not one of these heroes.

You are scum. An expendable tool to be used by your superiors. If you die, none will mourn or remember you. At best, you'll be thrown into a body pile and buried in a mass grave before the animals get to you. At worst, you'll encounter one Rigel's numerous deadly monsters, and end up as a quick meal.

One day, while you were in the town of Kafra, which borders the sacred Elven Forest, the Dread Sorceress Toxin appeared. You'd heard stories of her. A beautiful, powerful and yet very evil High Mage with mastery of ancient and deadly shadow magics. In a mere afternoon Toxin had single-handedly conquered your town. The power she displayed was beyond your comprehension, and while you expected to be killed by her magics, she gave you and the other citizens an ultimatum.

Toxin would be heading into the sacred Elven Forest to steal a powerful magical artifact. Most humans had little interaction with Elves, as the two races generally hated each other. Toxin planned to defile the forest, murder its Elven population, and plunder all of the gold and magical artifacts she could. To those who joined her and followed her bidding, she promised untold riches and fortune. The freedom to live like kings for the first time, and even the possibility of stealing for themselves one of the beautiful Elven women they'd heard legends about but had never seen. For those who refused to join her, they'd be conscripted into her bidding anyway. Magically bound to either obey Toxin or have their souls stolen.

Toxin managed to amass a large army that day. After witnessing just how powerful the Sorceress was, few dared to refuse her. And many felt safe and confident behind her power. With such a powerful mage backing them up, how could they lose against the elves? They'd make short work of their villages, and by the end of the campaign they'd all be filthy rich.

What could go wrong?

What is this?

I've shamelessly stolen this idea from Kayfabe (So you want to be a zako? ) because I had a lot of fun with it last year and wanted to continue! In his own words, this is part RP, part lottery. You've joined the Dread Sorceress Toxin's army. Whether you joined her willingly to gather wealth and power, or whether you've been conscripted against your will, you're now a full-fledged soldier in her army.

Create a Zako character, emphasis on Zako. You're not the hero of this story, but an expendable asset to be used by Toxin. Were you a Peasant? A Bandit? A Mercenary? Give your Zako a backstory and describe how they look. Your Zako will be part of Toxin's army and will go on various missions that I will create throughout the Elven forest. The ultimate goal is to capture the mysterious ancient artifact that Toxin is after in the Elven capital. Survival will be completely random, and be based on dice rolls as well as choices your Zako makes. Some of these choices will be individual, and other times you'll vote as a group.

RP is greatly encouraged in between missions!

The important thing to remember is as a Zako, your chances at survival are slim. You're basically going to the Elf version of Vietnam. So I encourage you to make multiple characters!

How it Works:

Create a Zako, describe how it looks (you can use Kisekae or a stock picture as well), create a backstory and choose a class from below. Your Zako will go on various missions throughout the forest. Whether the mission is a success or a failure, there is a good chance there will be casualties, so multiple characters are encouraged. The more your Zako survives, the more experience they'll gain and the greater (though not that great) their chances at survival will become. I'll run a mission every day or so, and a status screen with current active Zako.

Missions will vary based on which Zako are present and the class structure. Too many of one particular class may be a bad idea!

Classes:

Soldier:
Average to below average fighters with little to no remarkable ability. These soldiers make up the bulk of the Toxin's army. While some are mercenaries with prior combat experience, many are conscripted peasants or citizenry who have never held a weapon with their life. They're slightly more durable than your average Zako as they have access to armor, and with enough training can become warriors of decent prowess. If you're a soldier, state what weapon you are using.

Archer:
Ranged fighters, archers fight from a *slightly* safer distance, not seeing as much direct combat as their soldier counterparts. While most of the Archers in Toxin's army are untrained and rely on raw volley power, with enough training, they can become decent shots.

Rogues: Mostly made up of former thieves and bandits, rogues are more agile and lightly armored than soldiers, meaning they can't take as much punishment. They can be great for sneaking up on an enemy and hitting some vital weak spots. Rogues can become decent Assassin's with enough experience.

Mages: Very few in Rigel have the natural talent for Magic, so Mages are a vital necessity in any army. Their magic power can shred through most defenses, however they aren't that durable. Mages start off with a basic Fireball spell, however they can receive access to greater spells as they gain experience.

Clerics: Clerics have access to healing spells and serve as a support staff in any army. While they generally lack offensive ability, a cleric can be the difference between life and death, though they aren't miracle workers. Clerics can heal greater wounds with further experience

When do we start?!

You can start right now! Create a Zako and get to work! I'll create the first mission after we have a decent number of characters. For those who wish to RP with your characters right away, Toxin's army is currently mustering their forces in the city of Kafra before they head out into the forest!

I'll get things started by recreating my three Zako from the original thread!

These three women found themselves in Kafra during Toxin's attack. As none of them wanted to find themselves being killed by the Dark Sorceress, they've allowed themselves to be forced into serving her whim.

Name: Leah
Age: 22
Background: A basic spear wielding soldier in Toxin's army. Leah grew up in a poor farming family and longed for a life of adventure and excitement. She ran away from her farm and joined the City Guard, hoping to become a powerful warrior. Instead, she abandoned her post in fear the second Toxin attacked. The life of a meager city guard wasn't glorious enough for Toxin anyway though, and she plans to gain her well-deserved glory fighting for the evil Sorceress.
Weapon: 2-Handed Spear
Class: Soldier

Name: Mary
Age: 21
Background:
A local hunter who was selling her pelts in Kafra when Toxin attacked. She enjoyed the peacefulness and tranquility of the forest and hated city-life. However, she was conscripted into Toxin's army and forced to fight for her or face the loss of her soul. Mary absolutely hates her lot in life and wishes to get out of this situation as fast as possible.
Class: Archer

Name: Elizabeth
Age: 18
Background:
Elizabeth is an 18 year old villager who was conscripted to fight for Toxin. She isn't athletic, smart or talented in anyway. She'd be relegated to a lifetime of farming if it hadn't been for Toxin's attack. She's cowardly, and would sink to any low just to survive another day.
Class: Soldier
Weapon: Spear and Shield

Love this concept, hopefully some of these characters work, excited to see how this goes!

Name: Morgan
Age: 18
96960
Background:
Morgan is an 18-year-old milkmaid, she's dumb as a brick, weak as a board. With badly cut greasy hair, dirty skin and a face full of blemishes her strongest feature is that she is quite top-heavy. Since the town was invaded she was easily tricked to fight for Toxin though there's no way in hell she'd ever be able to hold her own. Her aloof personality got her into all sorts of trouble on the farm where she used to be employed, there's no telling what a disadvantage it would be on the battlefield.
Class: Soldier
Weapon: A broom

Name: Amanda
Age: 24
96961
Background:
Amand is a former soldier of the Kafra, however, she turned on her comrades as soon as she saw the tide of the battle turning. Her dream is to be a hero of sorts, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish her goal, whether that means backstabbing her allies or turning her back on her town. She is strong smart and resilient. With a great knowledge of combat, she has one weakness, secretly she's deathly scared of small animals, bunnies deers, etc. the sight of them will cause her to lose all sense and run.
Weapon: Claymore

Name: Li Ann
Age: 21
96962
Background:
Li Ann is an assassin from the far east who traveled to Kafra to work as a hitman of sorts. Her job paid well and she became quite well known in the underground. When Toxin invaded she joined willingly.
Class: Rogue
Weapon: Kunais

Name: Leticia
Age: 19
96963
Background:
Leticia is the result of a top-secret breeding program from the nobles of Kafra. She has studied the art of magic religiously since then and her birth certainly gives her an advantage over other clerics in her field. She has a twisted sense of humor and her healing skills sometimes end up working out very wrong. However, the sight of someone growing a vicious tentacle or slowly dissolving as a result of her mistakes brings her great joy. When Toxin invaded the town, it cut Leticia's training short, however, she willingly offered herself in exchange for a chance to actually use her power.
Class: Cleric
Weapon: Magic Staff

Luckily I had exactly three unused character concepts from the original fantasy one. (Well mostly unused, Tyris was repurposed to get killed in a short Deviantart image series but that's it.) All three girls are... kind of insane.

Name: Atella
Age: 22
Background: Atella was always the weird sort, shunned by her peers for being that creepy peppy girl who would usually be experimenting on rats and dead things while huddled up in her room. Jumped at the chance of aiding a dark sorceress.
Class: Mage
Weapon: A large staff
Atella.png
Name: Tyris
Age: 28
Background: A full time solo bandit who would lay low in villages posing as a lowly peasant while actually having a reasonable stash of gold hidden. Mostly only cares for herself and making coin, but on rare occasion can grow a soft spot for brothers and sisters in arms. Saw joining the sorceress to be a slight issue because she likes to stick to her own plans, but figured it couldn't be helped and there was probably some wealth in it for her.
Class: Soldier
Weapon: Mace
Tyris the amazon bandit.png
Name: Fuzzy
Age: 18
Background: A strange and mysterious girl who arrived one day and demanded to only be referred to as "Fuzzy Warbear". A large man at the inn laughed at this thinking it was some kind of dumb joke, but she wasn't amused by this and the short girl proceeded to beat him until he apologized and and said her name without chuckling. Not much is known about her other than the fact she flip-flops between being super giddy and stereotypically girly, super giddy about war and death, or in a terrifying mindless bloodlust. Excited to be going to war. Says "this is the beginning of my fairytale story of death and war!" giddily when Toxin arrived. Even though she's modeled herself after a bear, her cutesy, small, and animalistic theme would most likely unsettle Amanda, then again, Fuzzy would most likely unsettle most sane people.
Class: Soldier
Weapon: Steel brawling gauntlets with small metal claws at each knuckle.

After conquering Kafra and enslaving it's population into her army's ranks, Toxin wasted no time in mustering her forces to march into Mythra, the Ancient Sacred Forest of the Elves. Toxin's army was split up into different battalions, each led by a dark sorceress hand picked by Toxin. Each of these battalions, along with their Sorceress, was assigned a section of the forest to invade and establish a foothold in. In charge of taking over the southern most part of the forest was the Miasma Battalion, headed by the Dark Mage, Marla.

Clad in dark leathers that hung tight to a voluptuous curvy form and wearing a plague mask, Marla didn't speak, much, however there was no doubt she was a terrifying and powerful woman, who ruled the Miasma Battalion through fear. She commanded a grueling pace into the mysterious and verdant forest. Soldiers who couldn't keep up with the march were either left behind to starve to death, or had their souls stolen to aid in her dark spells.

Finally after three days of marching, scouts reported finding a medium sized temple lying in a clearing in the forest. Seeing the temple as a potential staging ground for the Battalion's campaign, Marla orders her soldiers to capture the temple and slay whoever resides in it. The soldiers under her command are exhausted in badly in need of rest, so they don't think twice about their orders and get ready to enjoy the slaughter of innocents.

Miasma Battalion
1: Leah (Soldier, 2H Spear (22/F): 10/10 HP (Level 1)
2: Mary (Archer, 21/F): 6/6 HP (Level 1)
3: Elizabeth (Soldier, Spear/Shield 18/F): 10/10 HP (Level 1)

8: Atella (Mage, Staff 22/F): 5/5 HP (Level 1)
9: Tyris (Soldier, Mace 28/F): 10/10 HP(Level 1)
10: Fuzzy (Soldier, Gauntlets 18/F): 10/10 HP (Level 1)

vs

Elven Temple Defenders
4 Elvish Temple Guards (Spears): 20/20 HP
6 Elvish Priestesses: 7/7 HP

With a charge, the Miasma Battalion rushes out of the woods and begins their assault on the Elven temple. Elves are generally a peaceful race, and few have ever interacted with humans. While the average Elf is much stronger than the average Human, most have never seen serious combat, as elves generally do not feud among each other. To make matters worse, violence is strictly forbidden inside Elven temples.

This all proves to be a catastrophe for the Elvish forces.

The Temple Guards, none of whom had ever seen a human before, are shocked to suddenly see a large group of them charging right for the temple steps. That shock lasts until the first Elvish Guard is bisected by a swing from Amanda's Claymore (Critical Hit! 1 Kill for Amanda).

The remaining three guards, covered in the blood of their fallen comrade, quickly gain their composure, but by that point the humans have already reached their midst.

One guard engages Tyris in combat. The two exchange blows with each other, and the elf shows a surprising amount of skill with her spear, managing to hold Tyris back. However, she's unable to see Li Ann sneaking up behind her. Two back stabs to the Elf's spinal cord crumple her and allow Tyris to score a direct head shot with her mace, ruining the Elf's once pretty features (1 Kill for Tyris.)

The other two Elves fight side by side, holding off the spears of Leah and Elizabeth. Their grouping together though allows Atella to launch a Fireball that sails over her comrades heads and lands directly into the Temple Guards. The magical blaze engulfs one guard, causing her to howl in pain and crumple into a heap (1 Kill for Atella). The other guard is badly burned, but before she can back into the temple, she's finished off by a spear thrust to the throat by Leah (1 Kill for Leah.)

The Miasma Battalion, having cleared the outside steps of the temple, rush inside to find six Elf Priestesses. The Priestesses are defenseless, and while most immediately surrender, two attempt to rush the defenders to attack them with their bare hands. For their trouble, one has her head punched in by Fuzzy (1 Kill for Fuzzy) and the other gets an arrow through her throat by Mary (1 Kill for Mary).

The remaining 4 Elves are captured and sent to Marla for "experimentation".

The Temple has been captured and a foothold for the Miasma Battalion has been established! Morale among the Miasma Battalion is strong. Taking that temple was so easy! These stupid Elves didn't even know what hit them! No way things will get any more difficult from here!

Right?

Battle Results:

1: Leah (Soldier, 2H Spear (22/F): 15/15 HP (Level 2)
2: Mary (Archer, 21/F): 8/8 HP (Level 2)
3: Elizabeth (Soldier, Spear/Shield 18/F): 10/10 HP (Level 1)
4: Morgan (Soldier, Broom 18/F): 10/10 HP (Level 1)
5: Amanda (Soldier, Claymore 24/F): 15/15 HP (Level 2)
6: Li Ann (Rogue, Kunais 21/F): 9/9 (Level 2)
7: Leticia (Cleric, Magic Staff 19/F): 5/5 HP (Level 1)
8: Atella (Mage, Staff 22/F): 6/6 HP (Level 2)
9: Tyris (Soldier, Mace 28/F): 15/15 HP(Level 2)
10: Fuzzy (Soldier, Gauntlets 18/F): 15/15 HP (Level 2)

The Miasma Battalion gets to work in establishing their new stronghold, setting up their barracks and supplies room.

While clearing out one of the rooms, Morgan encounters a pair of Elf children that had been hidden under one of the Temple's beds. They had been hiding from the fight, and both girls look completely terrified and shaken.

Choice for Morgan:
1): Kill those dirty elves. You can't trust an elf!
2): Call for backup and bring them to Marla. She'll definitely have a use for Elf children.
3): Let the Elves flee in safety. They look so cute and harmless. What could go wrong?!
4): Write-in an option!

I'm in!

I might edit this later with Kisekae. For now, I'll use words.

Name: Arastine
Age: 49
Description: This tall, muscular, vaguely wolf-like woman frequently bares her sharp, long canine teeth, whether during one of her many
jovial smiles or a rare frown. She's quite accepting, and though she's often fairly reserved anyone who approaches her is greeted warmly
as a potential friend. Her somewhat older than most adventurers age helps with this, since it gives her a motherly air.
Background: The descendant of werewolves and normal humans, she claims, her tribe live in a far-off forest land.
Apparently, she's come to seek a death in battle to appease her gods and atone for her crimes, making her eligible for the afterlife.
She happened to be in town when Toxin attacked, and since the fight was over before she knew it was happening she's content to fight for Toxin.
Weapon: An Axe and a Shortsword
Class: Soldier

Name: Asreine
Age: 23
Description: Average height, fairly pale from working inside, and with a fairly average figure, nothing about her particularly stands out aside from her hair being quite short, especially for a former barmaid.
Background: A 23 year old woman who was formerly a barmaid, she took her long-dead father's old weapons when she chose to join Toxin's legions. She was taught a bit by him while her mother wasn't looking, so she does know how to use them. She cut her once-long hair short when she joined Toxin's army, and plans to use her 'freedom' to focus on surviving until she sees a chance to get out of the area and out of reach of Toxin. This, she assumes, will be a fairly spur-of-the-moment thing, so for now she'll just try to not die.
Weapon: 5 Javelins (re-usable) and a Shield
Class: Soldier/Archer? whichever you think is better.

Name: Vittoria
Age: 19
Description: Shorter than most, with her jet-black hair matching her height. She has a fairly dirty face, but through the grime her pink skin can be seen. She's a slim person, as one would expect for a street-child like her.
Background: A street child, or 'gutter rat', as she calls herself, she'd just recently arrived in Kafra from a much larger city far away. That had been the use of her life savings, to escape the city and hopefully find a new life as an adventurer. She's very bitter about this turn of events. If she doesn't take it out on someone, she'll probably end up channeling it towards escape plots.
Weapon: A single long knife/shortsword
Class: Rogue

Let's load up on soldiers! Worst case scenario, they all die and we have a more balanced group next time.

After successful first battle morale is high among the troops. Amanda and Leticia join some of the others who have begun to raid the large stores of wines and meats in the pantry of the temple. Morgan is not as lucky and has been instructed to clean the rooms of the base to make them more suitable for the higher-ups. Whilst cleaning one of them, the grumpy milkmaid runs into two young elven girls.:

"Oi," Morgan yells at the two terrified children, too stupid to realize the levity of the situation, "Get out of here! I've got cleaning to do."
The children hastily get up and run out fo the room to safety, Morgan completely unaware of what she has just done, readies her broom and begins to sweep, still fuming over how damn hungry she is.

When clearing out the corpses, Atella made sure to be the first to reach the the priestess who had been shot through the throat as it was the cleanest kill. Tyris had noticed her examining the corpse and messing with it, grabbing the arms and dropping them to fall limply back down, among other things.
"The hell are you doing, weirdo? She's clearly dead, you don't need to check."
Atella responded to Tyris without taking her eyes from the dead elf, "It's part of my research. See, I'm interested in necromancy. Like, raising dead things as zombie thralls and stuff. I've managed to pull it off on some dead rodents and birds before, but that's it, couldn't do it right with bigger animals like deer. And this is the first time I've had an actual human cadaver! Er, well, elf cadaver, but essentially the same thing... And we have Mary's clean shot to thank for such an undamaged specimen! Ooo, this is exciting."
Tyris clearly wasn't too keen on this whole bringing back the dead concept and aborted the conversation as quickly as possible with a, "Uh... Well good luck with that or whatever."

Upon finding the two hidden Elf children, Morgan unwittingly allows them to pass by her. Whether she didn't notice their large pointed ears or lithe frame is irrelevant to her. All she wants to do is finish clearing out the room so that she can partake in the merriment that the Miasma Battalion is enjoying.

The elf children run past her while she's cleaning. Morgan doesn't pay much attention to them until she feels two sharp puncture wounds enter into her back. Reflexively she drops her broom and tries to reach behind her, but by then it's too late. She's on her knees and facing the two Elf children, both of which have a look of intense hatred on their face. Despite Morgan's apparent merciful decision, the two Elves haven't forgiven her and her friend's raid upon the temple. Morgan tries to beg for mercy, but is unable to produce more than a squeal as she starts to bleed out. The two Elves thrust their daggers into her throat, ending her worthless life.

After killing Morgan, the two Elves sneak out one of the back windows and attempt to escape the temple. They're spotted by Mary, however, as the only Archer, she's unable to land a killing blow on the twins before they manage to escape into the forest.

The alarm is rang but by then the two Elves have escaped. Upon hearing the news Marla is furious. Any element of surprise that the Miasma Battalion had is ruined as the two Elven children will most likely warn their kin.

Marla has Morgan's corpse stripped naked and hung as a display to warn the rest of the Miasma Battalion. Incompetence and failure will not be tolerated. You're evil, and you'd better start acting like it if you want to live.

(Morgan has died, Elf children escaped)

Mmm...yup. Let's go. I'll be describing with words too.

Name: Chantelle
Age: 18
Height: 5'8"
Description: Chantelle is a fit, tall young girl with long, light blonde hair with streaked black strands, falling down to the center of her back. Her cut bangs displaying her vivid, curious light blue eyes. She often wears little armor, often opting only for a thin leather cuirass that only covers her smaller breasts, and sturdy leather shorts covering her much larger ass, though they, too, barely reach down her thighs. Her brown leather boots are probably longer than her shorts, but not really. A tattoo of a snake reaches down the middle of her back.
Background: Chantelle can be summarized in one word: playful. Frolicking and travelling between towns and cities, Chantelle only plays by her own rules, and makes sure she always has fun doing so. Cheeky and mischievous, she's used to getting her way, and developed a rather carefree streak because of it, only by accident. While passing through Kafra, Chantelle heard about Toxin's rampage and, much to her storytellers shock, decided that it would be fun to catch up with them in Mythra and join her army there. And she did just that. Somehow, it actually worked.
Weapon: Twin Daggers
Class: Rogue

Name: McKayla
Age: 26
Height: 5'1"
Description: A small girl with shoulder length dark brown hair and soft features. McKayla compliments her plain appearance with a deep purple shawl draped over her shoulders, covering down just above her chest, and covering a similarly coloured robe reaching all the way down to her feet. McKayla wears two star shaped earrings and multiple glittery bracelets underneath her long sleeved robe. Enchanted ornaments which aid her in casting healing spells.
Background: A quiet, unassuming woman, McKayla ran a small healers hut in Kafra before it was decimated in Toxin's attack. Though highly regarded and earning a very motherly reputation along the way, McKayla secretly hid sadistic interests that she could never find a way of releasing. When she joined Toxin's army, nobody could have suspected that the delicate robed healer was absolutely delighted to finally get the chance at pillaging something.
Weapon: Enchanted Jewelry
Class: Cleric

Mission 2: Raiding the Elf Village
Event Difficulty: 2/5 Stars
Miasma Battalion
7 Soldiers, 1 Archer, 1 Mage, 3 Rogues, 2 Clerics

In the few days following Miasma Battalion's capturing of the Elven Temple, Marla has been hard at work interrogating the four captured Elven Priestesses. After conducting days of brutal torture, only one Priestess remained. Marla had succeeded in breaking her mind, and the Priestess now obeyed Marla completely, throwing herself at her feet and worshiping her as her master. Through her new found pet, Marla and the Miasma Battalion received some rather useful intel.

1. The bulk of the Elvish Army is stationed much further into the forest, where they are dedicated to defending their Queen, Anemone, who sits on her throne in the Elvish Capital City
2. The Elvish Army consists primarily of Rangers and Soldiers, with a sprinkling of Priestesses. Each of them knows the forest like the back of their hand, and ambushes a plenty are expected
3. Toxin's army greatly outnumbers the Elvish army, however it's definitely a matter of quality over quantity. In particular, there are certain Elvish adventurers that can turn the tide of an entire battle single-handedly
4. Throughout the forest are ancient dungeons and holy sites which the Elves hold sacred and do not trespass on. These sites plenty of riches and powerful items.
5. Within a few days walking distance from the temple lie two separate Elf villages

Marla is eager to begin raiding these ancient sites for powerful artifacts immediately, however the issue of supplies needs to be addressed. The entire city of Kafra was emptied, and it's population brought only what it could carry to feed themselves through the campaign. For now, Marla will have to content herself with raiding one of the nearby villages to stock up on supplies and slaves. She sends your unit to pillage one of the two nearby settlements.

Vs

4 Elvish Militia Soldiers (Spears) 15/15 HP
4 Elvish Militia Rangers 10/10 HP

Upon approaching the village, you notice that the gates are being guarded by Elvish Soldiers. Though they look more like Militia rather than an actual organized army, they were clearly expecting your arrival. It becomes apparent that Morgan's blunder has completely ruined any element of surprise you may have been able to employ. That fact alone makes most of the soldiers relieved that the useless wench died a wretched death.

The rangers let loose a volley of arrows at Miasma Battalion as they approach. While those with shields are able to block just in time, the rumors of Elvish accuracy with bows is certainly true. Leah and Fuzzy are hit in non vital spots (HP - 5). One arrow sails close to McKayla, however her Jewelry activates, allowing what would have definitely been a fatal shot to glance off her. Vittoria unfortunately, wasn't as privileged as McKayla to have access to expensive magical jewelry. An arrow sails directly into her throat. She falls face first in the dirt, writhing and gagging. While healing spells may have been able to save her in time, McKayla and Leticia are too busy trying not to get hit themselves to care about Vittoria. She dies choking on her own blood. (Vittoria Dead)

Atella is able to launch a Fireball at the group of Elves. This forces the Rangers back and breaks the defensive line that they had with the soldiers. In the confusion, Miasma Battalion's rogues are able to close in. Chantelle catches a fleeing archer in the back with her daggers, twisting the blades and holding on to her as a human (Elf?) shield (1 Kill for Chantelle). Li Ann is also able to score a kill on a fleeing Ranger, tossing a Kunai that lands directly into the back of her skull (1 Kill for Li Ann).

Mary shoots a 3rd ranger in the back and sends her tumbling into the ground (1 Kill for Mary). By the time the Elvish Soldiers can regroup, McKayla and Leticia have finished healing Leah and Fuzzy back to full health. Enraged after being shot, Fuzzy enters into a mindless blood frenzy and charges the Elvish soldiers. She caves in the skull of one woman with her gauntlets (1 Kill for Fuzzy) and sidesteps the spearthrust of another. Fuzzy grabs on to the spear, pulling the soldier close enough to grab on to her head and snap her neck (1 Kill for Fuzzy).

Just as she's about to be run through by another Elvish Spearwoman, the Elf suddenly finds herself clutching a javelin jutting out of her chest (1 Kill for Asreine)

The remaining two Elves stand together, both looking as though they're about to flee. The ranger drops her bow, gets on her knees and begins to beg your group for mercy with tears streaming down her face. The last spearwoman yells a rallying cry and charges the group, however, a well thrown kunai to the arm by Li Ann, causes her to drop her spear. This is followed by Mace Smash to the face by Tyris. (1 Kill for Tyris)

The Elf militia lies broken and defeated. With nothing to stand in your way, Miasma Battalion pillages the village. Capturing numerous slaves and gaining a good deal of supplies and loot as well. Marla will definitely be pleased!

Group Decision (Whatever has the most votes by the next update wins)
The captured ranger lies in a puddle of her own filth, tied up next to the wagon of loot. While you could add her to the group of slaves you captured, she did try and kill you. Perhaps another fate lies in store for her:
A) Kill her
B) Bring her along as a slave
C) Write-in option

Decision for Amanda:
While looting a house, you find a sturdy, ornate 2-Handed Sword that a family was trying to hide. It appears to be an heirloom of great significance to them. While all loot is supposed to go to Marla for distribution, surely she won't notice a stupid sword missing?
A) Steal the mace
B) Add it to the pile
C) Write-in option

Decision for McKayla:
One of the slaves decides to get uppity, and Chantelle is forced to stab her. While the wound isn't deep yet, without the proper care she'll definitely die. You can heal the wound easily, but perhaps now might be a good time to practice that sadistic side of yours?
A) Heal the Elf
B) Botch the heal and kill her
C) Write-in option

While I'm here, allow me to formally introduce you to your current "Boss". While Toxin is your Overlord and Supreme Leader, as a lowly Zako you'd never be allowed anywhere near her. Marla currently runs your battalion, and will serve as a boss character in future scenarios.

Name: Marla
Age: ??
97014
Background:
Marla is a powerful Dark Mage that works directly under Toxin. She's been given command of the Miasma Battalion, and has been entrusted with capturing the southern most portion of the Sacred Forest, along with looting and pillaging any powerful artifacts along the way to the Capital. Cruel and easily prone to anger, Marla cares nothing for the lives of her subordinates. The soldiers under her are easily expendable, and she'd happily sacrifice any number of them to achieve her goals. She wields powerful dark magics, including the ability to enslave the minds of her foes and steal their souls. She uses this power to keep the Miasma Battalion under control, for fear of suffering that very same fate. Her face is constantly covered by a Plague Mask, and none have ever seen what she looks like.
Class: Dark Mage

Tyris tells Li Ann that the two of them make a great team, but heaps on a bit more praise to herself then to Li Ann. Still, coming from her it's a fairly nice gesture to give an ally that much credit at all.

Inspired by Tyris' two epic 'gamer moment' kill steals that both happened to be with Li Ann, haha.
Two back stabs to the Elf's spinal cord crumple her and allow Tyris to score a direct head shot with her mace, ruining the Elf's once pretty features (1 Kill for Tyris.)
The last spearwoman yells a rallying cry and charges the group, however, a well thrown kunai to the arm by Li Ann, causes her to drop her spear. This is followed by Mace Smash to the face by Tyris. (1 Kill for Tyris)

As for the group choice, I'm not sure whether to say what I think or what the majority of my characters would think. From my own perspective, we've got 15 slaves so a 16th wouldn't mean all that much in the long run. And from my character's perspectives... Tyris would say "No liabilities," Fuzzy would say, "GRRRRR" and try to bash them all into mush, and Atella would be like, "Can I keep her? I want someone test more spells on! Even her corpse would be fine since the last one I had I accidentally burned to ash instead of raising from the dead, so that was an oopsie..."

So I guess no matter what from me it's execute her. Ooo, maybe publicly!

Oh, checked up on Tyris so I figured I'd add these too.

Atella wonders if Marla would be willing to teach her more about the dark arts, but Marla was a lot more dreary compared to Atella's peppy enthusiastic excitement about dark magic and on the occasions she'd been around Marla, she didn't seem very friendly, and Atella was a bit naive but not totally stupid she knew she might get killed for asking something like that directly. Still, Atella found her somewhat admirable and made sure her magical and alchemical experiments were known about by most of the others (By talking about them... A lot.) to the point that Marla might hear about it too. She knew a mysterious dark sorceress such as Marla likely wouldn't care, but Atella was the type who would shoot her shot no matter what.

Fuzzy opens a conversation strangely with Arastine. "Oh! So you're the wolfy lady I heard about?" she asks smiling sweetly, in contrast to her bloodlust in the previous battle, "Nice to meet you. I'm the bear girl. Such a shame the rat girl died today. We were the only three beastly folk around here. She didn't look like a rat though even though she said she was a 'gutter rat'. But it is what it is..." It wasn't immediately apparent whether or not Fuzzy was actually aware that her bear features weren't real.

Hello everyone, here are my zako character contributions:

Name: Moira
Age: 32
Class: Dark Mage
Description: Haughty, cunning, and ruthless, Moira's number-one priority is always herself. Dressed in a flowing red gown, Moira is a tall, regal beauty, with artfully-styled pitch-black hair, sharp violet eyes, and pale, flawless skin. She takes great pride in both her appearance and magical prowess, and will not hesitate to use either for almost anything, whether it's acquiring material possessions, torturing/abusing helpless prisoners for fun and/or profit, or just to rub her power in others' faces for the hell of it. Her motivation for joining Toxin's army is the chance to loot the Elven Forest's magical artifacts to enhance her magical prowess.
Weapon: Magical Staff

Name:
Rixa
Age: 26
Class: Archer
Description: Abandoned as a child in the Elven Forest, Rixa is a savage, half-mad hunter with a deep, abiding hatred of civilization. She has wild, dark-red hair and a lanky, angular physique. When not fighting Rixa tends to go everywhere dressed only in a simple loincloth, and her body is covered in scars, nicks, and scratches. Extremely anti-social and independent, Rixa was forcibly conscripted into Toxin's army, and will jump at the first opportunity to escape. The only living being she seems to have any concern for is Sylvia; although she sometimes has trouble expressing it, Rixa has grown to care immensely for the younger girl and can become violently protective of her at the drop of a hat.
Weapon: Longbow, two one-handed hatchets.

Name: Sylvia
Age: 19
Class: Archer
Description: Exiled from her home village for her mixed-race heritage, Sylvia is a half-elf with chin-length green hair and wide, expressive eyes. She is short and slim, dressed in simple peasant shirt and trousers. Having no combat experience or survival skills to speak of, Sylvia was wholly unprepared for life on her own and soon fell prey to bandits near the Elven Forest. When Rixa found her, Sylvia was penniless, injured, and half-starved. In a very rare moment of humanity, Rixa took pity on Sylvia and took her in, teaching her the basics of archery and woodcraft. After being conscripted alongside Rixa, Sylvia is still very inept at combat and miserable at being forced to fight against her will.
Weapon: Shortbow

Cautiously, Vittoria tries to stay near the center of the group to avoid ambushes and being picked off. She's glancing to one side, turning her head to follow the gaze of one of her 'comrades' when the arrow hits her in the throat.
As she lies on the ground, desperately trying to stop the bleeding from her neck, she's furious and bitter. There are two fucking healers, at least, and neither of them are healing her!? This is horseshit. Her whole fucking life, she's been ignored by everyone who mattered, everyone who could've helped her, and now this!? This was supposed to be her way out of all that shit! Now she's dying on the ground in some jungle because some bitch magician decided to conscript her. It's all so god-damn unfair...
She begins to cry, and then soon stops.

Asreine spends most of the initial fight hiding behind her shield and slowly advancing, hoping others make contact with the elves first.
She then sees intense fighting going on, and since she can't predict where her allies will go she can't throw any javelins without risking friendly fire. Soon, though, she sees an opening - a clear shot, and her target doesn't seem to notice she's there!
She throws her javelin, and hits the elf square in the chest. Internally, she's conflicted - she's glad she made the shot, especially since it seems that elf was about to spear the bear girl, but at the same time she's not particularly happy with taking the life of another, especially since it wasn't really self-defense.
She'll be thinking about it during her free time for the next few days.

During the battle, Arastine mostly sticks near Amanda, who she's decided is her 'battle buddy' for today.
After the battle, she responds warmly to Fuzzy's approach.
Nice to meet you too. Fuzzy, right? I'm Arastine. she smiles.
Fuzzy mentions Vittoria, and Arastine responds:
Oh, yes. Her. It's really unfortunate she didn't make it. Looking at everyone we have here...
She gestures towards the rest of Miasma.
I didn't think she'd be the first. Or, the first to die in battle, anyway. She says, remembering Morgan's very public body.
Would you like to help me bury her?
...The rat-girl, I mean. someone must know her name, and we could give her a small headstone...

I'd say RIP Vittoria... But, she wouldn't. She'd be back as a ghost, haunting the hell out of the healers and/or others who wronged her.

Edit: For the group choice, Arastine'd say kill the poor girl to end her suffering, and Asreine would say let her go. Vittoria would want a personal slave (to abuse) as repayment for her death. But, she's dead.

Poor Morgan, she was too dumb for her own good, and in the end, she just became a humiliated meat bag left on display to be sneered and laughed at.
97017

The next battle is tougher than the first, however, Morale remains high amongst the troops.

Li Ann excepts Tyris's gesture and the woman who is usually quiet and solitary invites the bandit to share a meal with her.

Amanda is quite pleased with their success rate thus far and feels that it's personally been her own doing. As such when she finds a beautiful weapon in a small house she is looting she feels obligated to keep it for herself after all a valiant warrior needs a better weapon than a rusty old sword. (Amanda keeps the mace)

Leticia seems oddly interested in the captured ranger and offers forth a competition of sorts, to use the ranger for target practice, whoever scores the best wins a portion of the loot, and that she will 'heal' the poor girl in between rounds!
