So I try to discuss ryona on the interwebs with anyone I can, and I'd like this site to be more than just a bunch of Megaupload links :P So let's discuss this odd fetish we live with called ryona. Hey if it's really personal nobody's making you share, but I figure it's healthy to talk about these things in relative anonymity.

What about ryona turns you on and where/when/how/why do you think it become a fetish for you?

The ryona I generally like is a strong (naturally or supernaturally) and beautiful female character losing to weaker male or female characters. I guess it's a power reversal thing where I want to see the person that should win actually lose by being overpowered by many weaker people or by being drugged/poisoned. Sex, rape, death, or blood I can do without. Really I get squeamish just watching fake surgery on a TV show. I have never discussed ryona with anybody I know in real life and nobody knows it's a fetish of mine. A big reason for that is a lot of people would assume that ryona is borne of a hate for women or has misogynistic roots even though that isn't the case, for me at least. I'll elaborate in answering the second question.

I've had that base ryona fetish for pretty much as long as I can remember, although at younger ages it applied to strong female and male characters. A little before adolescense hit it narrowed to just female characters. I was raised by a single mother in a neighborhood populated mostly with girls one to four years older than me, so I spent a lot of time with them growing up. Most of them weren't "girly-girls" as they were pretty much all into sports and I was not. I hadn't noticed it then but all of those girls I grew up with were rather attractive as well. I was also a shy kid so I didn't make many male friends at school. I really didn't have any male rolemodels growing up so I think that image of a strong male figure never really formed with me. Anyway, I think that's probably where my image of strong women came from but I'm not really sure where the power reversal part came in. Still figuring that one out.

Look forward to hearing what you guys like about ryona. I'm trying to make an atmosphere here where you won't feel like you're constantly being judged. If anybody says something damning regarding your sexual preferences, let me know.

  2. I don't know how my ryona fetish came about. Even when I was younger, I always found out that when I played Streets of Rage or Resident Evil, losing when I played as Blaze or Jill wasn't as bad as I thought. :P

As I got older, I thought I was the only one in the world with this weird fetish. You can't imagine how happy I was when I realized I wasn't alone.

The thing that turns me on the most about ryona is like you, the whole "power issue" deal. I think, as a male, I've been brought up to think that women are (in general) smaller and weaker than men. While that is somewhat true, there's always those awesome, tough girls in video games. Sheva from RE5, Nariko from Heavenly Sword, etc. and so forth. When those girls are brought down, it kind of gives me a (and I use this term loosely), power trip, I guess.

That being said, I never have, nor will I ever, harm or demean women in any way. With my ryona fetish comes voyeurism, meaning I like to watch, not act. Hence why I like only video game ryona, as it seems the most controlled. No blood, no gore (mostly), no rape, none of that pornography stuff.
And you know, when a video game girl runs out of health, the death moans are always a plus. ;)

it all started when i played streets of rage, the moment i hit these electra chicks i knew there was something wrong with me. Many games later and now i'm turned on whenever a female character gets it.

I don't have a heroine fetish though, rather a misogynistic fetish, so long females are involved, but i usually prefer is there is female cannon fodder to screw around with as opposed to seeing heroines get roughed up.

Hey guys. I've explained to clanssd quite some time ago about my background, but I'll share again with you guys.

To be honest my story is VERY similar to constant's. I grew up on (and still heavily enjoy) fighting games. The thing was I was so used to people picking the same popular or strong male characters in every game and always wondered why the girls (outside of those with heavy sex appeal) were always just deemed eye candy or flat out ignored and hated because they "were girls". True, I was into playing Ken in Street Fighter and what not, but I never thought of the female characters that way, so eventually I began taking the time to play as the female characters and really enjoyed them. This especially came about when Street Fighter introduced Sakura Kasugano as a playable character, and instantly fell in love with her. It's a theme for me, in any given fighting game, I'd usually be the one playing the "little teenage girl" of the cast, and would be GOOD at using her and I liked it that way.

When puberty hit, I started to think about the fact that actually losing any given fight with said character had an "odd" effect on me. Granted, I was a bit into that when I was playing SFII as Chun-Li, and sorta liked how she looked when she was knocked down/out, but now games were getting better in graphics along with me getting more mature. What looked fine back then looked VERY GOOD as time went by... and it just sorta grew into this closet fetish I had. I guess it had to do with the moans and groans girls did when they were hit and they way they looked while getting hit and being knocked down (especially true in 3D games like Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur) that worked on me the most. Even outside of video games during my times lurking the internet I've came across some videos from Japan (like girls wrestling... Not the actual pro matches, but the much more suggestive ones like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAATZfZlALQ) that hit my fetish right on the head.

I eventually realized that I liked seeing girls in a vulnerable & exhausted state [more so when their opponent is another female; even more if she's facing herself. You can see that I'm a fan of double K.O.s as well as the normal K.O.s due to that. :)] But it took longer for me to be comfortable about it like I am now. It wasn't exactly your "normal" fetish and it sorta revolved around violence against women in the fantasy standpoint. Most people take that the wrong way, so I just sorta kept it to myself. No way could there really be people who enjoy the same little thing that I do.

Then I came across a Dead or Alive Kasumi ryona video about 2 years ago, and found out that I was wrong in that. Didn't know what "ryona" was at the time, but as I watched the video it made all the sense that it needed to make. Despite the fact that it had the likes of Bass and Bayman doing all the action to Kasumi, it was right up my alley, and looked more into the concept. Seemed like the Japanese were the ones mostly into it, but slowly I realized a select few here also liked it.

So that's how I wound up here. I did a few video game ryona videos myself some time back but stopped because of the negativity some people brought to them. I'm glad this forum was made, so that I can try to share my own take on the subject without feeling tense about it. For me its not really about the whole "strong female meeting her match" but more along the "beautiful young girl being at her most vulnerable". Like most of you guys though, I keep all that in fantasy and respect women in general like they deserve. I just got a little thing for them being knocked out, that's all... ;D

Just curious if for you guys find ryona is less... "arousing" I guess would be the best word, if it's intentional? I've noticed that games like Rumble Roses (which is a game that pretty much caters to the ryona crowd) doesn't really appeal to me because it feels kind of goofy and forced. While for some reason if it seems like the ryona in a game is completely unintentional it hits me ten times harder.

  6. Personally, no, I find it just as arousing. I like Rumble Roses a lot, particularly Candy Cane.

Although, I do admit, when it's "unintentional," it's definitely better, because it just made me like the game that much more.

Nah, not even. Games like Rumble Roses work just as fine to me as when it's unintentional. I dunno, I can actually be a sucker for when it's rather obviously blatant [and even borderline cheesy] given it's done just right. If it's bland however, then no way, you've lost me. Now that I think about it though, yeah, it does come off a tad bit better if it's rather unintentional rather than forced, but like I said, as long as it's done right I'm not complaining.

  8. Amen. Do it right, and any game can be a good ryona game.
Unfrotunately, not many games do it right when so much potential is there. *coughcoughWETcoughcough*

    Hey all,

Don`t know, personal history, aside, I think it`s mostly about power issues - for me, it`s all about powerful women. I`d get no kick out of some poor little girl getting in ryona-type situations - I`d find it sick really (and thus I would never replicate this fantasy in RL). In fiction we`re discussing here, women are portrayed as strong and tough (although seemingly fragile - think any number of games), and that toughness for me is a sort of a turn on (and testing their toughness all the more - that`s what I like about the idea the most I think). All those girls and women are of course also super attractive, so that`s a plus. :) I imagine not everyone has the same motivations and a background that brought us here.

RR for me does very little, I do not find struggle holds and bearhugs (or wrestling for that matter) particulary invigorating.

Oh, and about coming here - It`s something I`ve pondred, I usually do not get involved with the community (easier that way I guess), but out of respect for clanssd work (on youtube) and from the very pragmatic idea - that one more amounts to more motivation:) - I`ve joined the fray.

I think that's the first time anyone has ever said they respect my work on YouTube. Thanks, but you guys are the real heroes. :P

Originally I was just going to remain silent, as my name might suggest. But what the hell, it's late here, I'm tired, and it's nice to find I'm not the only one.

The first time I remember this fetish, was when I was young, maybe around 6 or 7, and I kinda enjoyed seeing the pink power ranger losing. I even had a dream once about it. Since then, I, like it sounds many of you have, have hidden it from the outside, no one knows, as I do fear being mislabeled as a women hater or something, when it couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not sure I would say I have any favorite types or forms of ryona, but I'm not a big fan of the real blood and guts stuff, which is why B-movies very rarely do it for me, even though the women tend to be very attractive on those movies. Resident evil still does it for me though, so I can tolerate some of that stuff. I'm also not really into wrestling, and prefer the more every day/girl next door ryona then straight up super heroines, though I wouldn't completely exclude them. I don't have too much of a problem with sexual exploitation, or even rape, though I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I raped someone or through inaction allowed someone to be raped, as even though it's a fetish, I can recognized it's really screwed up. And another turnoff is, like you asked clanssd, if it's clearly there to be ryona, and so my prefered medium is video games and movies/tv.

Thanks for not staying silent :) The main purpose of this place is to make ryona something we can actually talk about and not hide away shamefully in the back of our mind. Maybe it'll never happen, but I'm hoping ryona becomes common enough in America where it won't be social suicide to be open about it.

Hm, I think you`re a bit optimistic clanssd.

Besides, I think maybe some might be taking it too seriously, I really hope it does not grow into any kind of ideology/agenda with a mission ... a sappy tale of being stigmatized, it`s just a kink (thank god it`s not like some non-consensual [and real] sexual practices, which are destructive in reality), and I dont know about you guys, but I do not obsess about the hows and whys too much, although some retrospection is always interesting. It does not define me, so I need not to be liberated from it. I think what bothers you the most is how people (neighbours/friends) around you would look at you if they knew, but take a good look at the world around you - can you really tell what`s normal, non-destructive and healthy anymore? And besides - even your neighbours and friends probably have some skeletons in their closests. :)

Just an opinion though. Have a great friday.

You do have a point, and maybe that last post came off a little strong. I would like what I said to happen, but I don't really believe that it's going to start and end here at this website. While I wouldn't say I obsess over the reasons for why I have this fetish, I'm always interested to know and try to figure it out. I'm sure ryona affects us all to a different degree. Personally, I really wouldn't feel comfortable with someone in the same room as me while I'm playing a video game or watching a movie that has ryona in it. Not that I want to make it sound like if I see ryona I immediately have the urge to hump the nearest inanimate object, ryona is just like... a really beautiful naked woman standing around in a room and it's really distracting.

To your point about everyone having skeletons in the closet, while this is true it just boggles my mind that more than one person has admitted to me they have a rape fetish or excessively rough sex fetish (beating, spitting, etc.) and that 1) I'm not that shocked by it and 2) even after they reveal their fetish to me, I still don't feel comfortable telling them about ryona. I guess what I mean is, some people can show off the skeleton in their closet while mine collects dust :P I like to think society and my paranoia are equally to blame for that. :'(

  15. I know where you're coming from, clan, about people telling you *insert pretty much anything here,* and yet I can't seem to bring myself to bring up ryona.

I think it's because ryona isn't a specific term. Foot fetish, rape fetish are both very specific, in a sense. Ryona is, by definition, really vague. To this day, I've told one friend about it, being as specific as I could, and she was still confused about it and had to ask more questions. Eventually, she understood, but it took more time than I realized, not to mention the awkwardness when I admitted it to her.

Still, the feeling of opening up to someone and not having them be weirded out by you or look at you any differently is the best feeling I've ever felt.

Moral of the story: Best friends rock.

My usual kind of Ryona is the protagonist girls getting beaten up. Not much into blood and decapitation though I do like some Resident Evil, but not when the girl gets too bloodied. I do like physical type more as well like bearhugs though I don't wanna see joints being turned the other way around. One of my top faves would be ninja girls since they're supposed to be tough yet they get beaten up. I know this is supposed to be bloody but then on my mind I just cancel out the blood, which is why I don't like it when it's really really bloody.

I think I started getting into Ryona since I was a kid. While playing that old Genesis game of SailorMoon, I'd purposely watch them getting beaten to my delight. I would even draw them lol. Sometimes I'd play arcades on my own pretending to be a noob player just to see the girl characters get beaten. It soon evolved into Lara Croft ryona and one of my all-time faves, Regina from Dino Crisis.

The superheroine fetish of mine just came up lately after seeing some Wonder Woman peril from Justice League.

I actually got into the superheroine in peril thing pretty recently as well. I hope some of the superheroine videos that are posted here are of some interest to you. Unfortunately haven't run across much animated ryona besides some H-games and that Taiman Asagi? H cartoon. They're not really my thing but if you're interested I can post those later today.

mine is the strange one i think. I like a strong protagonist girl fight with "normal" thugs or hoodlum and got pretty much beaten up after a long fight. The strange thing is, the more people fight the girl, the more i like it ( gang bang kind of type :p) and the weaker the enemy, the hornier i got hahahaha ..... So i don't really like a one on one Ryona fight (like Cat fight or fight with the boss and lose). It is hard for me to get this kind of type LOL :P ..... but whenever i got the source of my fetish, it is like found a super hot chick LOL !!!!!!

That`s an interesting one - midget vs superheroine fights all around. :) But seriously, I imagine there`s not much of a market for this one, although I`d like to see some examples.

You might want to check out some of my Psylocke videos on Youtube. It's not much (SNES quality) but it's got some scenes of Psylocke being beaten by thugs. She's a little taller than the thugs too.
