    Welcome to Undertow.

First and foremost, this is an adult oriented site geared towards the discussion of sexual fetishes and pornographic content. This discussion is to take place without judgement as long as the rules below are being followed. If you don't like it, you should leave now because that's not changing anytime soon.

If you're completely new here, familiarize yourself with the rules as the moderating staff will not take ignorance as an excuse for breaking them. If you've been with us awhile, read them again as there may be unexpected changes from one of the now defunct communities.

I realize this thing is kind of long, but I do expect everyone here to be familiar with the rules. Most of them are common across most forums, but need to be stated explicitly because rules can't be implied. This thread will be left open, so please feel free to ask questions or offer feedback. If there are any major changes to the rules then we'll try to notify everyone.

    Conduct

Be kind to thy fellow perv
I know some days it's not easy, but try to follow the golden rule. If at any point you feel upset or annoyed, take a step back and reassess the situation. And don't eat greasy food.

Child pornography (let's get that elephant out of the room)
We're hosted off-shore, but it's still illegal in a lot of places outside the western world and posting content or links depicting real, underaged people will not be allowed. While I hate to have this one thing that goes against the purpose of the community, it brings down an incredible amount of heat from governments and local authorities that we're not equipped to handle.

Let me be clear: I have nothing against pedophiles. Pedophilia/Ephebophilia are not fetishes that I'm remotely interested in, but being sexually attracted to children is completely different from exploiting and abusing them for your own interests. This is a distinction I expect everyone here to recognize.

Illustrated work is still allowed (most commonly referred to as lolicon/shotacon), however please continue reading the rules below. This content must be clearly labeled and for the sake of members living in different countries, wrapped in spoiler tags.

At least I'm not into that
There is no moral high ground here. As long as your kinks stay in the realm of your erotic fantasies, all things are equal. You're free to disagree, but you will be keeping that negative shit to yourself as long as you're here.

    Effort is appreciated
Many threads involve the exchange or ideas and opinions, and don't require much commitment of time by anyone involved. But some posts do involve significant input, research, troubleshooting or creative work. When this happens, please be mindful of the effort that your fellow forum members have invested. If they've asked for feedback or bug reports then you should try to provide it. If you find a post useful then click the "Like" button. Keep your content-creators happy and they're more likely to continue contributing.

If all you want to say is thanks or acknowledge you read something and that's all you have to say, just use the "Like" button. Helps keep things clean and lets the poster know you like what they got.

A tidy perv is a good perv
You've probably been around your fair share of the internet. It helps when things are where they belong. Do your part in keeping this forum organized neatly and tag threads/posts appropriately, especially when dealing with content that has a reputation of making people feel queasy or uncomfortable (guro, shota/lolicon etc.). Also keep in mind that some users live in countries where such content is illegal to view. Be courteous and wrap such things in spoiler tags with clear warnings.

    Madame is outraged!
There's no shitty hive-mind or band of Social Justice Warriors to promote outrage culture here. There will be things that you'll find offensive because that's the nature of the site. We don't want you to be hit in the face with things you don't want to see, but if you voluntarily click a thread titled "A shapely mound of rotting dicks" and end up barfing in your mouth a little, don't try to shift the blame. Again, be courteous and ask for it to be labeled appropriately if you felt blindsided.

    There's a major difference between:
"Hey could you _________?" and "Dude, seriously? Fuckin' _________?"

If you can't figure out which approach you should be using, you really don't belong here. If a user posts nothing but things you don't want to see or read, simply block them. If their posting behavior suggests they're being intentionally negligent or inconsiderate, report their post and let the staff deal with it.

    No trolling
Waste of time for all involved, I mean unless you have so little going on that it fills you with some sense of achievement. If someone rubs you the wrong way and you feel there's nothing of value you can get from their opinion or insight, block them. If you really feel the need to go get into with someone, do it in private so no one else is subjected to your little dick measuring contest. Report public flame wars between members, even if you're not involved.

    Avatars and Signatures
This is an adult oriented site, but as there isn't an option to hide these and making a comprehensive list of what's okay and what's not for just these two things would be an ever-changing nightmare. Keep signatures to a reasonable size (maximum of six standard size single spaced lines).

Avatars and signatures can contain softcore imagery and suggestive themes (revealing clothing, bare breasts and ass are fine), but can not show genitalia or depict hardcore/fetish themes. This includes fetishes that don't necessarily involve sex, such as guro or lolicon.

If you're linking off-site in your signature, review the rule below: I DESERVE FREE MONEY

I DESERVE FREE MONEY (Posting links off-site? Read this)
If you link to an external commercial landing page, crowdfunding campaign, or a personal ad-driven site anywhere on this forum, you are required to link back to Undertow on the same page somewhere above-the-fold. Consider it payment for your advertising space. Repeatedly ignoring or attempting to circumvent this rule will result in a ban.

The use of affiliate links, content lockers, ad-redirectors (ad.fly, bitly etc.) and file hosts requiring paid membership are also forbidden. Members are highly encouraged to report posts containing these links.

    Exemptions:
    - Links to pages requesting voluntary donations. Mandatory donations are not donations, don't be fucking stupid.
    - Download pages on external file hosts.

    Attachments
No copyrighted/pirated content is to be hosted on our system.

We'd also appreciate you not hosting random images you can easily find on Google images or whatever other image collection site on our system. Mass storage is cheap when you buy it for your personal machine, but it's not when you're leasing high-availability hardware. Lots of sites will host your shit for free and hold on to it for damn near forever. When posting, there's an option to remote upload images. This will post your image to a random private IMGUR account. Use this for posting random screenshots and the like.

Obviously a lot of attachments have been imported that don't follow this. We have no expectation for you to move your attachments if they were setup that way to begin with, but going forward, make an effort to use the appropriate uploader.
    Browser security
The staff takes absolutely no responsibility for the safety of links and downloads found on this site. Antivirus and malware protection are solely your responsibility. There are numerous software packages that are freely available to handle this.

It simply isn't possible for us to proactively vet every single link and upload on the site. If content that could potentially infect your machine is found, it should be reported so that staff can remove it.

    Legalities

    Piracy
Using our storage system to host pirated content is strictly forbidden and an immediately bannable offense. The staff will not be moderating links to downloads hosted externally from the site. These are not our responsibility.

    Take down / removal requests
We will only remove content by request from this forum if it meets the following criteria:

    - It contains personally identifiable information and was posted without the consent of those it pertains to.
    - It is pirated, copyrighted, or intellectual property hosted on our file system.

Our staff will NOT remove links for DMCA purposes. File a DMCA request against the party hosting the physical data you wish to be removed. We will only remove links that are dead.

    Trading

If you want to trade any paid/pirated content in private, that's on you. You do it out of my sight and the sight of any staff members. Understand the difference between profile posts and private conversations. If you're getting the impression that it's okay to spam random users with trade requests through conversations or start a thread listing off things you want to trade, you're wrong.

If you receive unsolicited requests to trade content, report the message so we can deal with the person responsible.

    Classifieds
If you want to buy/sell relevant content or services here (art commissions, games, or mods of your own creation) you are free to do so, however the staff will have no hand in the process and bear no responsibility on any goods, services or currency exchanged.

If a user appears to have no reputation on the forums, do your own research of them and follow the usual best practices for online transactions. If you feel you were scammed, file a report with the payment processor. Be wary of anyone requesting payments be made as gift or donation and not as a commercial transaction. You'll receive absolutely no help from companies like PayPal if you do this.

That said, if you feel you've been cheated and were unable to reach a resolution with the other party, you are free to post your experience or feedback regarding another member here publicly as long as you remain objective. If the staff sees a track record of questionable behavior from someone, we will remove the member from the site.

    Defamation / Libel
In the interest of avoiding having lawyers and agents of politicians snooping around here, let's avoid mentioning public figures and celebrities by name. For SDT modders in particular since specific requests are common, only refer to celebrities by stage or character name rather than their real one.

Example: Black Widow instead of Scarlett Johansson

I know you were really looking forward to that request of Madeleine Albright being fulfilled, but try to contain your disappointment.

    Subject to change

These rules, like all rules, will never cover every single situation that could potentially come up and cause issues. In such cases where the rules are vague, open to interpretation or contradictory to standing rules, the staff will deal with them on a case-by-case basis and evaluate our current rules to see additions or changes are necessary. We will announce major changes in rules should they come up, but it's also your job to be informed what the rules are regardless.

TL;DR this shit is subject to change without notice. Check in on this post periodically.

Yes. You can post external links to images, videos, mods, tools, guides, etc...

Links to pirated material are allowed. Please remember that such content must not be uploaded to the Undertow file server (as attachments or Resources). We'd prefer to see Undertow members creating original content and sharing it with each other, but we recognize that this work sometimes puts modders into legal grey areas (such as alteration and sharing of copyright-protected texture files, or the creation of tools to bypass anti-cheat software). We also recognize that some members like to play games which were never released in their nation of residence, and that piracy is therefore a necessary part of their daily entertainment.

If you're just looking to download a bunch of pirated games and movies then you should visit a torrent tracker instead of Undertow. This is a social website, and your reasons for visiting should generally involve communication: perhaps you want constructive criticism on your writing, or beta-testers for your new mod, or recommendations for a sexy MMO to play, or help with a translation project, or an argument about whether Superman could beat up Batman.

Please remember that links to extreme content (e.g. loli, gore) should be clearly labeled and tagged. You're welcome to share stuff with like-minded fans, but please be mindful of the users who may be freaked out (or legally imperiled) by inadvertently clicking on an unlabeled hyperlink. This rule applies mostly to the "common areas" of the website; you can ignore it if you're posting in a thread which is dedicated to extreme content.

We get touchy if someone drops a link to their crowdfunding project in a "hit-and-run" manner. If they're willing to stick around, take suggestions, answer questions, and link back to the Undertow website -- then all is well. If they're just looking to convert eyeballs into dollars without adding anything to the site -- then please Report them.

What about using spoiler in signature to hide content that's not pg-13?

    Hm.

Ok, so long story short: I'm still a little confused after the "transformation" from SDTMods, and I've rather quickly found out everything besides the SDT subforum is completely not my thing. But still, I'm going with the "don't judge" mindset and I'll just stick to that part - indeed, everything is labelled quite clearly anyway.

The only thing I'm quite uncomfortable with is the rule regarding loli - I'm guessing this touches a grey area at best. Regarding everything else, probably nobody cares what people like doing to adult fictional characters, but besides making me personally uncomfortable, I think loli might still attract some unwanted attention if the forum is unlucky. Is there any interest in this kind of content anyway, and wouldn't it be easier for everyone to ban it altogether, on the same basis as "no public figures/celebrities"?

I might be wrong, and definitely don't want this to sound in a "holier than thou" tone, but I'm just quite uncomfortable with that one point.

As for the other rules, all clear to me.

There is interest. Please remember that such discussion was bannable on SDTMods. The fact that you didn't see it historically cannot be used as evidence that it didn't exist. If you look carefully you'll find users discussing it via euphemisms (such as a request for a "midget" character) in order to evade punishment. It's also easy to find hairstyles for characters who are canonically underage (Eiko is six). Under SDTMods rules, such content could be requested, created, and shared ... so long as nobody actually described it as "underage" or "loli."

The relevant files (such as lolicon.swf) may be out of date and unusable because modders don't like loli stuff and refuse to work on it. That's fine. Nobody is required to assist with this stuff or even acknowledge its existence. You can ignore the threads, block any users who talk about it, ask modders not to include it in bundles, and (hopefully/eventually) blacklist the relevant tags.

Indeed. It's difficult for modders to do any serious work without approaching this issue. Any breast-slider-enabled costume mod will potentially appeal to lolicon fans, even if it was intended for scenarios involving consenting adults.

@detritus is willing to deal with the attention from law enforcement or copyright-holders. He's committed to the principle of not censoring personal fantasies (erotic or otherwise), and he has asked staff members to uphold this policy regardless of their personal tastes. He believes that the existing code-of-conduct (rules such as "don't upload pirated files to the server; don't post links to child porn"), in conjunction with offshore hosting, can avoid any strict liability scenarios which might lead to subpoenas and server shutdown.

If you're refering to "unwanted attention" in the form of an unsavory userbase (e.g. people who might harm children in real life) then that's a different issue. I'd suggest that you send your concerns directly to @detritus.

No, you don't need to include a link-back in your video description. People are accustomed to Youtube ads and the monetization factor is miniscule. Also: we wouldn't want to discourage anyone from linking to videos posted by other people (in which case description-editing is obviously impossible).

If someone shows up and starts spamming links to random crap ("Top Ten Celebrity Scandals!" "One weird weight loss trick that really works!") then we'd probably just kick them out. If you're linking to relevant content (especially if it's stuff that you're compiling or creating from scratch) then please continue to do so.

To everyone else - please be aware that you can embed Youtube videos into your forum posts if you want to. You can see an example in randomguy's recent post. This approach may be helpful if you're linking several videos in a single post -- although you're welcome to use other organization techniques (such as Youtube playlists or special-purpose Youtube channels) as well.

I guess that it would be acceptable so long as you include text outside the spoiler tag warning people about the stuff inside.

Personal opinion (not rules/policy stuff) -- I'd prefer not to see spoiler tags in sig blocks at all. I think that the purpose of a sig block should be one or both of the following:
    • branding. A distinctive image or quip which helps your buddies to quickly recognize your posts, and gives strangers a quick impression about who you are or what interests you.
      • the key idea here is generality.
      • this signature is going to follow you around everywhere (including interactions with newbies and staff), so it shouldn't be an "inside joke" comprehensible only to your best friend, or a fetish porn image that's going to be really out-of-place in a discussion of Undertale.
      • an image of your favorite videogame character or supermodel would be okay, but please choose a safe image (or crop the image carefully so that jimmies remain un-rustled).
    • sharing. URLs pointing to work that you've done, or useful resources for newbies, or a few of your favorite threads, or a funny Youtube video that you watched recently.
      • the key idea here is brevity.
      • you want people to look at these links and consider clicking on them. If you include twenty links then nobody is going to bother looking at any of them (and you'll probably break the limit on signature size, anyways).
      • if you bury the links inside a spoiler block then most people won't bother expanding it to see what's inside. Your links won't get much traffic.
      • choose two or three of the most important links for inclusion in your signature; the remainder can be dumped in the "About Me" section of your Profile.
These goals both depend on visibility. Hiding your signature inside a spoiler tag defeats its purpose.

If you've found a cool porn image and you want to share it with people, then the appropriate course of action is to post it in a thread or gallery somewhere. The image can then be displayed at full resolution, and it can be properly tagged so that fans can discover it and non-fans can avoid it.

    Bad Examples

    • booster's signature links to work that he's done
      • he includes a one-line hyperlink for each of his threads, which makes his signature unreasonably tall
      • this sort of "exhaustive" approach isn't necessary anymore because the forum software is reasonably clever -- it allows anyone to quickly find all of the threads created by booster or all of the Resources which he has uploaded
    • xellos49698's signature was damaged during the forum migration
      • the punctuation marks were mangled and the signature image is missing
      • the signature doesn't effectively tell people about xellos or share useful information. It merely occupies space

    Good Examples
    • sby's signature has a bunch of useful Help resources and links for newbies. He can often drop into a thread and resolve the issue simply by saying "check out the links in my signature."
    • gerve's signature links to some of the requests that he has made. If someone has a positive interaction with him on the forum, then they might check out his mod projects and offer feedback or support.
    • password42's signature includes links to several of his projects. They're arranged in a "wide" layout which makes effective use of horizontal space. He can make a 1-line post without seeing the actual content of his post get overshadowed by his sig block.

I have a little question (I'm not sure if it belongs here, sorry if it's not...): until today, I have posted links to the respective authors' site when there are new games, that is still OK? The other times I had taken screenshots from my own archives to upload here as GIF or JPG files, there's no problem with that? Thanks in advance.
