I love this game-my biggest complaint is in my cluelessnes in finding anything to do with magic...I'm missing stuff I guess that's obvious.

What do you mean, exactly? Explore everywhere you can get access to. You fight bosses and gain new abilities (attacks) and will eventually come into possession of orbs. You equip the orb and you get a magic attack (you'll also gain abilities with the orb that can change what it does, like how it fires or creating an element shield around you). Does this help?

Kinda-I've explored everywhere I know of, and have beaten the first two bosses-but I don't know what else to do-I know I need magic to reach new areas beyond the colored walls, but I haven't found any orbs anywhere...

If you have only beaten two bosses then you have LOTS of more exploring to do before even thinking about the magic.

Keep looking at the Castlevania-style map. Scrape every edge you can. You missed something.

This fantastic game actually has four endings, not three. Let's see if I can remember how to get them..

Good Ending: Keep your corruption gauge as high as you can get it by rescuing humans and walking past them to collect the blue-white orbs they spit out at you. Don't kill or rape any humans, then beat the final boss with your soul corruption maxed and the light orb equipped. This is the 'normal' ending and I personally think it kind of sucks. It's your base for getting all of the other endings safely, however; if you want to see them all, go through the game like you want the good ending and keep a save at the final boss so you can switch it around.

Bad Ending: The same as above with a twist. Kill a lot of humans (I'm guessing 200+, but haven't experimented a whole lot with it) and then defeat the final boss with the light orb and high soul corruption like in the good end. You'll know you got it right because the boss will rage when he's defeated, saying that in your heart you want darkness and destruction. Once you fulfill the requirements for this ending, it's impossible to get the good ending. So get the good one first. Relm is raped in this ending, but it's actually pretty boring, so... Don't get your hopes up.

Neutral Ending: In previous talks with people about this game, we concluded that this one is probably the true ending. It's the same as the good ending, but you fight the final boss with the dark orb instead of light. You should start the fight with your soul gauge high and then be in brute status by the time the FIRST fight with the final boss ends. Then you defeat the second form with the dark orb as well, after which you get to fight the 'real' final boss, which is actually the boss from the evil ending. It's a plot-twist 'I'm the real bad guy' type of ending, and it's probably my favorite of the bunch.

Evil Ending: Be in brute status when you enter the final boss fight, defeat his first form with the dark orb. You'll then switch sides, meaning you don't have to fight his annoying second form (hooray), and go through a small extra area where you have to kill humans. Then you get to face a different boss instead. I don't believe the 'kill 200+ humans' requirement from the bad end applies for this ending, meaning it's just as easy to get as the good ending.

Also, if you finish the game quickly with a high item completion percentage, the background image for your 'thank you for playing' screen changes, Metroid-style. My quickest and most accurate so far is 3:48 with 98%, which shows Relm in a swimsuit.

^The endings, like I previously said, are dependant on two things : Your Soul Gauge (aka Corruption Meter) at the time you confront the final boss, and whether you killed any humans in the game or not. Which orb you have equipped is irrelevant (although it does make the fights easier of course). So the real requirements for the endings, using the above post's phraseology, is :

No killed humans + High Soul Gauge = Good Ending
No killed humans + Brute Soul Gauge = Neutral Ending (I assume)
Killed humans + High Soul Gauge = Bad Ending
Killed humans + Brute Soul Gauge = Evil Ending

Did a quick test just to be sure and Mardion is correct on some notes. It doesn't matter which orb you use for most of the endings. Edit: Clarification after another test, pardon the misinformation. For the neutral end, your soul gauge has to be low but not in brute when you enter the boss room. Getting to brute during the fight is not necessary. Entering the fight in brute status will start the evil ending no matter how many humans you've killed.

It also doesn't matter if you only kill a handful of humans; killing absolutely no humans is not a requirement for the good or neutral endings. But killing too many will lock you out of those endings as I mentioned before. Accidents happen, but don't go around killing them just because you can.

Interesting info, good job Mebius. So the grid should look like this :

Brute Soul Gauge = Evil Ending
Low Soul Gauge = Neutral Ending
High Soul Gauge + No/Few humans Killed = Good Ending
High Soul Gauge + Several/Many humans killed = Bad Ending

BTW, how did you test it so quickly? O_o Is there some debug mode, do you have several savegames near the ending...?

There are a lot of save files floating around of that game, you just have to find them. Second, I didn't know you got a bad ending if you killed humans but had a high soul gauge, that's interesting. I might have to play through again.

Looks good, Mardion. I'm not honestly sure if the game has a debug mode, but you can lower and increase the difficulty in the configuration menu at any time in the game. The next-to-lowest difficulty is laughably easy, to say nothing of the lowest. That aside, I've slammed through this game so many times that I have a veritible El Dorodo of saves. A lot of them are from the older versions, but... All I really had to do was turn on the external drive and there I was at the last boss. :3

... Back when stats capped at 255, when you couldn't find the hammer until far later in the Well of Fire.. Back when the prison only had eight rooms and one of them didn't even have a boss in it. Before the orc boss and those impossible armored centaur guys showed up... Good times.

Just a heads up for people who didn't know. It appears as though Nightmare Sphere 2 is in development.

Oooh, naisu findo, Umina. That's definitely relevant to my interests. That new claymore looks pretty sweet. And I like Relm and all, but the prospect of having multiple playable characters is definitely... Uh, causing me to drool. Ahem.

Oh, and the boxy floor is a nice touch too.

The first was such a good game, I'm looking forward to the future. I really hope they add more variety with enemies and maybe more interactions.

Found a small alpha gameplay trailer for the sequel-in-the-making. It's just a demo showing the new weapon designs and abilities; none of the more interesting things we've noted are included yet. But still. Swords.

This kind of thing is what makes Akatsuki and his work stand out from the rest of the scene. He aims to make a good game, not just porn, and meticulously focuses on one element until he's got it right where he wants it before moving on. I don't really mind if the ryona gets sidelined provided the game is as good or better than the first. Hope we get to see some demos of the other playable characters soon.

On a different note, I've been doing some speed runs of the first game just to see the different images you get for different clear times. Here's two semi-speedy times and the standard 'you took way too damn long' image. When I finish what may or may not be my last run (in Yutori difficulty this time, because I'm an idiot and didn't do that in the last two) I'll post whatever I get on that one as well.

Wait, I left the game running? (7:19)
GOD FUCK HATE THESE DEMON-CENTAUR THINGS. (3:48)
It is difficult to rape that which flies overhead. (2:56)

This would be easier if I knew how to edit Gamemaker saves or could freeze the timer with a hex editor like Cheat Engine, but that requires technical know-how that I don't possess. Fumbling numbers around to try and figure out the formula Gamemaker applies to the on-screen values would wind up taking just as long for me as speedrunning the game several times, so.. I'll stick with what I know.

I'm excited for this. I, too, felt the game was very well made. When you actually play through and complete a ryona game, it means something. That's extremely rare for me.

I remember seeing the ending images by browsing the game directory - I can't do it right now for the life of me. why doesn't irfanview run on linux bloodly hell - but it is or was definitely there. Last image has Relm sitting naked, her pose covering the naughty bits.
