Apparently, the 'media button in the editor tool bar', doesn't work for MOV files (I didn't find other formats on Tumblr).

The video ID seems to be preceding the .mov of the URL, but it doesn't seem to work using the BBcode :

It doesn't seem to work for posts either :

I'll reach out to Wreck as well to get his thoughts, but I suspect from the failure to embed that this might well just be an issue with Xenforo. Maybe they only have it set up to host certain kinds of embeds from Tumblr, and this is looking to embed stuff outside that, so to speak.

Worst case, is it possible to find another site to upload the content to and link to it from there as some sort of workaround? I realize you likely don't want to do that, but figured I'd throw it out there as a last resort. (In theory if you did this you'd probably want to also link back to the actual tumblr page via a regular url embed to supply a proper source, too.)

I have no interest in Tumblr, per se. I just want to embed trailers, and I have to choose one from your list. I wouldn't actually have a problem, if I could choose any file sharing host I want. At the moment, I am favoring Anondrop.net, because they let you choose your own thumbnail.

I got both the trailer and the thumbnail from Home | The Battle For Earth.

However, Anondrop is not on your list of acceptable hosts. As for a work around, I've been been giving people links to the trailers using thumbnails, which I make myself by adding a play button to a vidcap. Or, I tell people to click on the thumbnail.

There are a couple of ways we can do this. You can add Anondrop.net, or possibly Qu.ax to your list of acceptable hosts. Or, I can continue linking people to the videos with thumbnails. In the latter case, you guys would make it easier for me, if you were the ones to put the clickable thumbnails on the page. In other words: 1) I upload the video onto a file sharing host, 2) I give you the URL to the video, 3) I give you an image for the thumbnail, 4) You guys add the clickable thumbnail with a play button onto the page, 5) when people click on the thumbnail, they are taken directly to the video URL.

I do have the ability to add a BB Code Media Site, from my digging around in the console. I knew I remembered seeing that awhile back.

I've attempted to add a custom one for AnonDrop, but to be fully honest I have zero clue how HTML stuff works so I've basically cobbled this together from one of the other ones. If something explodes, let me know.

Thanks for your help, but, unfortunately I can't get any of the links to work.

anondrop.net/1550012756403421295
anondrop.net/embed/1550012756403421295/LiquidKryptonite.mp4

The first link is for the download page. The second link is for embedding the video. Notice the unique file ID in both URLs. Each file also has a unique access key, which allows you to delete or edit the file details. As soon as you finish uploading the file, go to the dashboard, and copy this important key by clicking on the number you see.

Access Key: 1550012192185651230

You need this key to go to the editing page.

anondrop.net/edit/1550012756403421295?key=1550012192185651230

If you change the file name, remember to keep the file extension. Otherwise, you will not be able to embed the video. To work on another file, go to the dashboard, press the Change Key button, and then enter the access key for that file. In exchange for this inconvenience, you never have to sign up for an account.

Allow me to reiterate. I do not have any experience with HTML, that's the first and foremost problem here. One of the few things I was able to actually clock initially was the orange part being the ID. I have trouble making it embed because I am genuinely fumbling around in the dark here. I'm basically trying to make this in a cave with a box of scraps. If you have any idea what the HTML should look like, please enlighten me. I've made attempts, but none of them are working thus far.

To elaborate a bit instead of JUST throwing up my hands:

We need 2 things to make this work - one or more "match URLs" that the BB Code Media Site template requires to be able to recognize "hey, this is an embed from this site!", and an embed template. The latter is the problem here. I can clock that the first should be something like https://anondrop.net/embed/{?id} (to use the syntax the editor uses), it's the latter that's the problem.

Here's what this part of the code media site template looks like, with my current attempt at HTML based off some googling:

This doesn't work, sure, but I genuinely don't have any idea why. I have zero personal experience working with HTML stuff.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about HTML code, either. Somehow, we have to get the system to accept the file ID. Ok. Why don't you show me some HTML code that actually works? Doesn't the [media] command work for news sites like CNN, etc? Anyhow, the embed URL won't work unless you put the file name and the extension on the end of the URL.

anondrop.net/embed/1550012756403421295/LiquidKryptonite.mp4

So, I guess you need to know the HTML code for the filename.

You mentioned CNN, here's what they have:

CNN HTML:
<span data-s9e-mediaembed="cnn">
    <span>
        <iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="//fave.api.cnn.io/v1/fav/?video={$id}&amp;customer=cnn&amp;edition=international&amp;env=prod">
        </iframe>
    </span>
</span>

They use this as their match URL:
Code:
(^https?://(?:[^./]+\.)*cnn\.com/.(?'id'))i

I figured I'd check a couple of the video sites in the list, here's what YouTube uses and what Vimeo uses:

Youtube Embed HTML:
<span data-s9e-mediaembed="youtube">
    <span>
        <iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" style="background:url(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/{$id}/hqdefault.jpg) 50% 50% / cover" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/{$id}{{ $list ? '?list=' . $list : '' }}{{ $t ? ($list ? '&amp;' : '?') . 'start=' . $t : '' }}">
        </iframe>
    </span>
</span>

YouTube Match URL:
(^https?://(?:[^./]+\.)*youtu(?:\.be|be\.com)/.(?'id'))i

Vimeo Embed HTML:
<span data-s9e-mediaembed="vimeo">
    <span>
        <iframe allowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="//player.vimeo.com/video/{$id}{{ $h ? '?h=' . $h : '' }}{{ $t ? '#t=' . $t : '' }}">
        </iframe>
    </span>
</span>

Vimeo Match URL:
(^https?://(?:[^./]+\.)*vimeo\.com/.(?'id'))i

My initial attempt had something more or less copypasted over from these and that one didn't work either; the one in my above screenshot is the result of me trying to do some googling.

Ok, I think I've found the problem. Apparently, Anondrop is stopping you from embedding the video.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Perhaps you can talk to this guy
