DC Universe Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the DC Universe.
Ryona:
- Root - Prevents movement. While rooted, players can execute a breakout. Root duration depends on the caster's "Dominance" stat but will generally last a good duration if a breakout is not used.
- Stun - Prevents movement and use of abilities. While stunned, players can execute a breakout. Stuns only last a few seconds at maximum even if a breakout is not used.
- Trap - Prevents movement and use of abilities. While trapped, players can execute a breakout. Duration is dependent on the "Dominance" stat as well as the amount of damage taken by the person that is trapped. Victims of traps can be picked up and slammed or thrown while encased.
- Knockdown - Knockdowns are fixed duration stuns that you can recover from more quickly with breakout.
- Knockback - If you attempt to get near a base of the opposing faction, the guards will simply knock you back a city block.
- Death penalty - There is no XP penalty for dying in PvE or PvP. PvE deaths will cause your items to lose durability. A friendly player can revive you with a system similar to Resident Evil 5 if they can get to you roughly within 6 seconds of being knocked out. An enemy player can prevent this by finishing you off after knocking you out, although there is no animation for this.
Character and costumes:
- Character customization is much more restricted in comparison to Champions Online. There are no individual sliders to control certain parts of the body and starting costume selections are limited.
- Costume pieces available during character creation can be unlocked through questing, completing collections, and trips to the Vault which can be done once daily, unless you obtain Vault tickets.
- There are more costume styles available that can be purchased from certain vendors in the Hall of Doom/Watchtower with certain "Marks", the currency for purchasing higher level equipment.
- Player characters do not have any voice work.
Enemy types:
- Normal enemies - These can be found anywhere in the game and generally only have one type of attack.
- World bosses - These are bosses that appear throughout the game world in non-instanced areas. They will generally require a group of equivalent level players to take down.
- Bosses - Boss matches are 1 on 1 private matches (unless you're a group member of a team).
- Othes heroes (PVP) - Players can challenge other players into PVP battles.
