well, as terrible as the end product is, I finished(?) Erica. there are a couple things that could be better but it is what it is, so feel free to change it around if you want. top one is minus my terrible shading job second one is with the shading. character code is in .txt file attached just plug that into the right field with the hair applied and it should work!

Are you using the path tool? Or are you just using the paint tool? Because the path tool will get you much straighter, more precise lines. If you haven't already, take a look at voltlight's tutorial video.

new hair, this time I tried using the paths tool in gimp to get crisper edges and then using the eraser to blur just a bit to get it to look a bit less pixellated.

It was a bit easier to place the shading on this one. my only problem with it was that the reference material I found on my quest all showed her as having hair that was really long and looked like it was always blowing in the breeze so I attempted to replicate that look, how well I did is up to you.
