Figured this was a perfect time to finally finish part IV of the "What If Sonya Was The Main Character Of The 1995 Mortal Kombat Movie" project. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and enjoy this brutal battle between Sonya Blade and the master of ice himself, Sub-Zero!

----------

Sonya put on a tough exterior after her battle with Kitana, but the truth was, everything hurt like hell. She didn't know how much longer she could go on, and she was pretty sure her arm was broken.

Thankfully, Raiden knew some techniques to help her recover quickly. Plus, there seemed to be some sort of healing magic surrounding the island keeping combatants in tip top shape... at least the ones that were still alive.

Raiden jerked on Sonya's arm and she let out an involuntary yelp, but was surprised that it felt almost completely healed in just a few short seconds. Sonya rubbed her arm softly and noticed Raiden's dour expression on his face.

"What's wrong? Did they find Liu Kang yet?"

"Unfortunately, no," Raiden said in his gravelly voice. "I really thought he was going to be the one to defeat Shang Tsung. I know that evil sorcerer is behind Liu Kang's disappearance, but I can't find any proof."

"Well, at least you've still got me," Sonya said reassuringly, then added "and that stupid actor."

Raiden sighed again. Sonya's heart sank. She could tell that something had happened to Johnny Cage. She didn't respect him much as a fighter, but she had to admit, to herself and no one else of course, that she was thankful that she wasn't alone in this fight. She was exhausted due to picking up Liu Kang's opponents in addition to her own, and was glad to have another fighter still on the team.

"Johnny Cage is dead," Raiden said with his head down, his large hat hiding his face from view.

"Shit," Sonya spat out. "How?"

Raiden's head shot up and he had a look of fury on his face. His eyes were completely white, and Sonya felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up as sparks flew around Raiden's body.

"He foolishly challenged the undefeated champion Goro before he was ready! He was torn limb from limb!"

Sonya sighed. "Then it's all up to me, then?"

Raiden calmed down. It wasn't going to help Earthrealm if he lost his temper.

"I'm afraid so, Sonya. You still have a few more fights to go, each one more dangerous than the last. Your next opponent is Sub-Zero. He has the power to create and control ice. Then you have Goro, who has already killed Johnny Cage. He's a four armed Shokan from Outworld. Brute strength won't be able to beat him, you'll need to have some sort of plan to take him out fast. Once he gets ahold of you, you'll have your limbs ripped from your body, and I won't be able to just pop them back into place like I just did with your arm."

Sonya clenched her fists. "It's OK, Raiden. I can do it. I can beat them."

Raiden looked at Sonya and smiled warmly, but his smile faded as he turned away. "Maybe. Shang Tsung is stronger than all of them. And his ability to steal souls means that even in death you'll find no rest. You'll be tortured for the rest of eternity."

Sonya shivered. She was afraid. She'd never admit it, but she was very afraid.

And cold.

The moonlight shone off of Sonya's smooth skin as she and Raiden sat on a bench near the ocean. It was a chilly evening, but it seemed to be getting colder by the second. Suddenly, a door from a nearby building opened up, seemingly by itself.

"I believe it's time for your next fight."

Sonya looked towards the building, and finally realized why she was feeling so cold.

"Sub-Zero."

Raiden nodded. He stood up, and suddenly a bright white light filled Sonya's eyes, temporarily blinding her. A loud thunder crash was heard, and Raiden and the bright light were gone.

Sonya was alone again. She stood up, rotated and stretched her newly healed arm a few times, then she made her way into the small building. A robed monk silently greeted her at the door, and guided her into a large room. The monk told her to wait, then left. Sonya stood there and looked around the room and found it was mostly empty, except for a few buckets in the corner, a large staircase that went up to who knows where, and another staircase that went down to a lower floor. Sonya snapped to attention as she saw the blue-clad ninja come down the upper set of stairs. Her bare arms and legs were freezing, and she couldn't keep her hands from shaking. She was so cold! She almost missed that time she spent facing Scorpion in whatever that Hellish place was. At least it was warm!

Sub-Zero casually came down the stairs and met Sonya on solid ground. He gave her a bow and she returned the motion. The two got into their fighters stances and stared each other down.

The blonde Earthrealm fighter took the initiative and led the attack. She needed to end this fight as quick as possible or else she'd freeze to death just standing next to this blue ninja-clad warrior. She threw a few heavy kicks towards Sub-Zero, but he dodged and blocked them easily. She threw some quick punches, and the ice ninja grabbed her arm and fell back, rolling Sonya over his head in a monkey flip. She landed on her back on the hard ground and winced. She quickly got back up to her feet and Sub-Zero threw a heavy punch across her jaw. Her head snapped to the side, but she retaliated with a punch of her own. Unfortunately for her, he blocked it, then smashed his fist across her face a second time, then followed that up with a kick right to the center of her nose. Her nose exploded in a bloody mess.

"Ahh!"

Sonya attempted to punch Sub-Zero a few more times, but he blocked them just as easily as before, then uppercutted her under her chin. She flew up in the air and landed flat on her back again.

Before Sonya had time to think, Sub-Zero stomped down hard on her stomach.

"OOOOOOH!"

Her legs came up and she stomped on the ground a few times in agony, and her hands were gripping his pant leg tightly. A glob of blood shot out of her mouth. Something inside of her had ruptured, she could feel her strength fading.

Sub-Zero held out his hand and gathered in the water from the surrounding air and formed a long thin sword made of ice. Sonya gurgled out a few protests as he pointed the sword directly at her face. He raised the sword in the air, and Sonya screamed out a loud "NO!" just as Sub-Zero shoved the sword into her open mouth. It pierced the back of her throat and exited the back of her head and stuck into the ground below her. He let it go and it stood up straight on it's own. Sonya's arms and legs went limp as Sub-Zero took his foot from her body. A small pool of blood formed under Sonya's head before it froze completely.

Sonya heard Sub-Zero approaching and rolled out of the way just in time to miss having her ribs crushed under his foot. Not only did Sub-Zero have some sort of control over ice, he also was physically stronger than any human she had ever met. Despite her clear disadvantage, Sonya wasn't giving up anytime soon. Everybody had a weakness, and she was going to find his. She had to.

Getting back up to her feet, Sonya attempted a roundhouse kick to the side of Sub-Zero's head, but he seemed to disappear. Sub-Zero threw himself backwards and did a flip, making sure to kick Sonya hard under her chin as he did so. Sonya fell back to the ground. She rolled over onto her stomach and punched the ground. A small trickle of blood dripped out of her mouth and onto the ground, freezing mere seconds after touching the floor. Her body felt weak from the cold, and she couldn't stop herself from shivering.

Without warning, Sonya's face smashed into the ground as Sub-Zero stomped down on the back of her head. Sonya's body was twitching and shivering. Sub-Zero grabbed onto the blonde woman's ponytail and pulled her up to her knees. He held out his hand and a small ice dagger formed in it.

Sonya was gagging and spasming violently, but she was still conscious. Her eyes saw the dagger and went wide, but she couldn't speak or scream or anything. Sub-Zero yanked back on her ponytail to reveal her thin neck to him. He gently rested the ice cold dagger against Sonya's throat, then he quickly dragged it across her neck, slitting her throat. Blood poured down her neck onto her chest. Sub-Zero gave the back of Sonya's head a shove and she fell forward, slamming her face into the ground.

The only sounds in the room were from Sonya's body twitching and shivering against the ground and her gagging and choking. After a few seconds, she went completely still, and the room was silent. Sub-Zero bowed, then went back up the staircase, back the way he came, his dagger still covered in Sonya's blood.

Sonya heard Sub-Zero approaching her again, and this time managed to catch him off guard. He raised his leg to stomp down on her, but she grabbed his leg with her feet and twisted. Sub-Zero took a tumble down the stairs and landed on the lower floor below.

"Take that, blue boy!"

Before Sonya was able to follow him down the stairs, he got back up to his feet and jumped high into the air, landing in the middle of the staircase, and quickly made his way back up to where Sonya was. She barely dodged a punch that most likely would have knocked her out cold.

The two exchanged punches and kicks, with Sub-Zero mostly blocking Sonya's attacks, while Sonya was taking quite a few hits. His strength and the cold was making it very hard for her to do much of anything. Sub-Zero grabbed her arm and tossed her to the ground. Sonya rolled when she landed and was back on her feet quickly, but Sub-Zero delivered a hard kick to the center of her chest. She swore she heard something crack, but there was no time to think about that now. Her back slammed up against the back of a wall.

Sub-Zero put his hand against her chest and pinned her against the wall. He started punching her face and backhanding her, left and right, and Sonya was too weak to fight back. Her head snapped side to side with each hit. She just took the punishment that Sub-Zero was dealing out to her. He punched her a few times in the stomach, completely knocking the air out of her. He then grabbed her head, slammed it into the back of the wall, then picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder, letting her fall to the ground in a heap.

Sonya Blade, once a powerful woman in the Special Forces, was now just a weak pathetic girl, curled up on the floor and praying for death. She cried out as Sub-Zero grabbed the sides of her head and forced her back up to her feet. He let her go and watched as she wobbled back and forth on her feet, almost but not quite falling over every few seconds. He stepped to the side and used his ice powers to form a large spike standing up out of the ground, right behind Sonya. Sub-Zero got right up next to her, got low down to the ground, then unleashed all of his strength in an uppercut. Sub-Zero knocked Sonya several feet off the ground, and she landed on the spike. She screamed out in agony as the ice spike pierced her back and jutted up out of her stomach. She looked at it in shock, but it didn't take long before her eyes rolled back and her head went limp and hung backwards. Her arms and legs also went limp and swung in the air for a few seconds before going still.

Sub-Zero admired his work. The spike had pierced Sonya in the exact center of her body. Blood ran down the length of the spike and puddled on the ground before turning to red ice. The ice ninja left her there for Shang Tsung. The ice spike with Sonya's body on it was moved into his throne room. Sub-Zero's ice was cold enough to preserve her body, turning her into a permanent trophy for the evil sorcerer.

Sonya was pissed. She knew she was losing the fight, but she had no idea how to handle it. Johnny Cage was dead, Liu Kang was missing, and she was the only one left. The fate of the whole world was up to her, and she was failing. She screamed out in anger and charged at Sub-Zero with everything she had. She threw punches and kicks, and was actually hitting him for once. He was knocked back more and more with each hit, and suddenly he turned and ran.

"Hey, coward, come back here!"

Sonya chased him. It looked like he was running straight into a wall.

"Where the hell are you going?!"

Sonya realized it was a trap too late. Sub-Zero actually kicked the wall and flipped up into the air and over her head. Sonya spun around but was too slow to react and took a kick to her solar plexus.

"UGH!"

Sonya was pinned against the wall. She coughed up blood onto Sub-Zero's black pants. The blonde Earthrealm warrior's lips were blue, and her skin was very pale. If she wasn't going to die by Sub-Zero crushing her body, then she was going to die from hypothermia. Neither one sounded very good to her.

Sonya's arms hung limply at her sides. She was too cold and weak to fight back anymore. Sub-Zero pushed down harder with his foot and crushed her ribs. Sonya let out a gurgling sound as blood splurted out of her mouth. The ice ninja removed his foot, but before Sonya could fall, he slammed it down across her throat.

"GCK!"

Sub-Zero raised his foot and Sonya's feet left the ground. Her legs kicked weakly a few times before they went still. She couldn't feel anything anymore, and her vision was going dark. Just before she was able to pass out, Sub-Zero pushed down hard on her neck and crushed it. Her windpipe collapsed and her spine shattered. Her hands spasmed for a few seconds, then her entire body went perfectly still as she hung there in the air with Sub-Zero's foot against her destroyed throat. He gave her neck one last push with his foot, then let her drop. She fell to the ground with a crash. He grabbed her ponytail and shook her head a few times to see if she was gone. Satisfied, he let it drop, then left the room as casually as he entered.

Sonya gripped Sub-Zero's leg tightly. She squeezed as hard as she could, digging her nails into his skin. He probably could have taken the pain if he really wanted to, but he decided it wasn't worth it. He let go of Sonya, then kicked her hard in the face. Her head snapped to the side, and she slid down the wall and landed on her ass, her legs spread apart and her arms resting limply on the ground beside her. Sub-Zero grabbed her by the throat and lifted her up to her feet, then threw her down the stairs. Her unconscious body rolled head over feet and crashed onto the hard floor below. A few seconds later, she coughed up a large amount of blood as she woke back up. Sub-Zero casually walked down the stairs, not feeling the need to rush.

Sonya felt a tear start to form in the corner of her eye, but it crystalized almost immediately. The room was so cold, she just wanted to sleep. She was so tired. If she just went to sleep, just for a minute, all the pain would go away. Yes... just... one... short... minute... of sleep...

Out of nowhere, Sonya heard Kitana's voice. "To defeat your next opponent, use the element which brings life."

What did that mean? Was that supposed to be helpful? What did Kitana know anyway? Sonya had killed her, so she must not have been that smart to begin with. Why be so cryptic? She did the world a favor by ending her life.

Sonya rolled over onto her side and crashed into a bucket full of water. It spilled out and froze on the ground.

"Water? Is that what she meant? How is this supposed to help?"

Sonya stumbled back up to her feet and saw Sub-Zero gathering some sort of energy. A blue ball formed around his body and was growing in size.

"What the fuck is this?!"

She reached out to touch it, but pulled her hand back quickly as the tip of her finger suffered a bad ice burn. She stumbled backwards awkwardly, barely able to stand on her feet anymore. Blood was frozen onto the front of her face, which was completely numb now. She saw one other bucket full of water, and got an idea.

If this doesn't work, I'm dead, she thought.

Sonya grabbed the bucket and started spinning around on her feet. The water stayed in the bucket due to her spinning quickly. She had to focus as hard as she could on keeping her hands closed around the bucket handle. She couldn't even feel her fingers anymore.. Finally she let the bucket fly.

Since she couldn't feel her fingers anymore, she wasn't able to time her move correctly. The bucket went flying off and missed Sub-Zero by a substantial amount.

Well, I'm dead then.

Sonya stumbled back farther and farther as Sub-Zero's ice ball was filling the room. Her back hit a pillar, and she screamed, turned her head to the side, and held up her hands in a useless attempt to stave off his attack. Of course, it didn't help.

Blue light filled the room, then suddenly, it all disappeared like it had never been there. Sub-Zero shook his head a few times, trying to regain his senses. That attack always took a lot out of him. He smiled under his mask when he saw his once beautiful opponent was now turned into a frozen statue with an expression of horror on her face. Her hands were frozen in front of her, and her feet were frozen into the ground. Sub-Zero drew back his fist and slammed it into her body. The top half of Sonya's body exploded into a million tiny frozen pieces. All that was left of her now were her legs, still standing and frozen into the ground.

Raiden returned a few minutes later and sighed when he saw the pair of legs encased in ice. He knew they were Sonya's.

"Well then, after all this time, Earthrealm has finally lost. Liu Kang is no where to be found, Johnny Cage is dead, and now... Sonya Blade, our last hope, is dead."

Raiden bowed his head in shame.

"I must consult with the Elder Gods..."

The water flew out of the bucket and formed an ice spike. The spike impaled Sub-Zero in the chest. The ice ninja flew back and the spike slammed into a pillar, pinning him to it. His eyes went wide as the ice spread over his entire body until finally he was fully incased in it.

Her plan couldn't have worked any better had she planned it.

Sonya limped towards her frozen opponent, barely able to keep her eyes open. Her whole body shook from the cold, and her bare arms and legs were completely numb. She gathered up the very last bit of her strength and performed a jump kick. Her foot whipped into the side of Sub-Zero's frozen head and it exploded into a blue and red mess that loudly clattered to the ground. Sonya gave out a weak smile, then her eyes rolled back into her head and everything for her went dark.

THE END?
