this worked for me.
Faces will not disappear even if you delete vertices and edges on the meshCan someone clarify what this means exactly and/or where I need to do this? If i delete anything there, I'd need to make a new face to fill in the hole. If I do, it makes a face with a distorted texture, and I don't know how to fix that, nor do I know how to use or make a UV.

So there is no hole
However, if you delete the edge on the UV boundary line, the texture will be distorted.

Thanks Suzu, I used dissolve not delete. I use that function often, but using it as a solution to the shadow hadn't crossed my mind!For maya
All vertices and edges on the face can be deleted.
Also, maya has a wide variety of functions and can fill those holes.
In case of blender
x → Dissolve Edges
x → Dissolve Vertices
This function can delete edges and vertices on the face.
