Stereotypes about Ryona fans (1 Viewer)

Hello.

I guess everyone knows what I mean.

In case you don't, have a look at this - this is what I found at urbandictionary:
Another words, it's the next step up from misogyny where a bunch of sick minded geeks on the internet that haven't gotten laid since the Clinton administration satisfy their hatred and frustration of women by watching them tortured and react upon that.

(Here's a link to the whole page if someone's interested)

First of all, I don't consider urbandictionary to be a reliable source of information to begin with. I'm referring to it, because it perfectly exemplifies the attitude I'm talking about. I'd occasionally see ryona topics on various gaming forums and peoples' reactions were always the same - the author was labeled 'sick' and the topic was closed.

Now, what I don't understand is, when I see comments like that on Youtube, ryona fans don't seem to argument against them. If I posted ryona video and someone said something like "Die, misogynist!", I'd at least tell them to stop jumping to conclusions.. or educate themselves first. But instead, the usual answer is: "if you don't like it, don't watch it" - which is true, but.. again, there's no attempt at defending against those allegations.

So, I'm curious if anyone had similar experience and of your opinions about the things I mentioned.

No one argues with these people because it's a waste of time that will accomplish nothing, and would simply legitimize the actions of bigots and trolls by treating them like intelligent lifeforms.

I wouldn't bother with it, I mean... I've seen girls who liked to see men suffer and nobody argues with that.
And I don't bother watching it, such a simple solution.

Double standards... the pillar of today's society.

Anyway, there is really no reason to argue with those people, as they have already determined in their minds that all persons who like ryona are sick SOBs and no amount of logical arguments is going to change their collective mind. It's a little something called "prejudice" and it's nigh impossible to break through...

Strangely enough, I haven't had anyone cast judgement on me on my DA page. And there's alotta maledom mixed wrestling on it.

I suppose it'll happen soon enough though.

Then again, the deviantart community is mostly a bunch of perverts anyway :p

Trust me, I'm someone who loves your page!

I see what you mean, and I totally agree - arguing with such people (on any topic really) is pointless. But I think posting a quick message from time to time might be useful as there're also other people who will see it.

Funny thing is, I used to be prejudiced myself to a degree, though I always make conscious effort to challenge my beliefs, so prejudices like that don't last long in my brain. On top of that, I realised at some point that some videos I liked were actually ryona videos (including female wrestling) so.. you can imagine the confusion I felt, I just had to figure it out!

shz, in my opinion what you wrote perfectly reflects the way most people view ryona and all kinds of videos and images in which women are beaten: if a woman is beaten by another woman, then it is OK, all fine and dandy, as well as very sexy and super hot, and so on and so forth. This mainly applies to female wrestling although in the case of video game or TV show/film ryona in which again a woman beats another woman most people also do not see anything wrong or repulsive about it.

But heavens forbid a woman is beaten by a man (or some monster, but a man is worse)! Immediately comments spring up in which the author of such video is called a pervert, a sociopath/psychopath, a male chauvinist pig who hates all women or a gay (because according to people posting such comments a real man would never beat a lady, just fuck her which in this context means rape). It also seems that to some women and feminists a mere act of posting such a video means that its author/uploader is a misogynist and an anti-feminist.

Violence performed by men on women is still a taboo today. In some way it is good because violence is almost never a good thing (especially towards women, who are more fragile and can be more easily harmed), but it leads to situations in which even when a woman picks up a fight or enters willingly into a fight with a male opponent, the man is often despised and criticised if he dares to fight back and hit her. It is very visible in various intergender matches from professional wrestling companies. The spectators are almost always against a man in such a fight and when he wins or starts winning there's often outrage and very often some other male wrestler steps up to "save" the woman from her opponent, because men are not allowed to win matches against women. It is all choreographed of course. If it wasn't, men would win 90% of such matches and the producers would be accused of sexism.

Just let them say how twisted we are and just don't bother about it. As they say, you can't please everyone.

I think being ryona fans are fine as long as we don't physically hurt real women in response to this fetish.

I remember there was an argument on the "ryona" page of tvtropes between a couple of people. One kept claiming that "most ryona fans were misogynists" and other argued against that view. It's gone now, I think...u_u

These are baseless, ignorant attacks that mean nothing. We've quite a few active females on here that aren't afraid to talk about what they enjoy, and I don't think there's anything they exclusively like; they're shared interests within the community. Attacking ryona for misogyny makes no sense what with all the BDSM around the web (and there are websites far, far, crueler to males by Dominatrixes than anything on here, and they have real clients they inflict pain on).

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if some ryona fans were bad at games, given how much ryona revolves around death animations and game overs. XD

That ryona fans are shit at games.

I doubted that one at first, but with all the youtube vids, I'm starting to wonder...:P

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can say firsthand that's a lie for me personally. Granted, I have a tendency to always want to try my best, so it makes it harder for me to enjoy 'self-made' stuff because the back of my mind always wants to win no matter what. Not only that, but people over the net are always skeptical of your skill when you're "letting" your female character get beat up. >_>. It's all a mindset thing for me, but I'm usually more comfortable watching others' ryona works than making my own because of dudes being quick to say 'You Suck!" You guys should see my two YouTube channels (one that I used to use for ryona, and the other being my "main" gaming account), and just see the difference in the comments... Might as well be two different people in that regard. (I'll admit, it's partially due to ryona and partially due to unpleasable net jockeys that I don't try as hard as I used to...)

meh, its the internet, everything is fair game. i suggest not taking any of it seriously. I give Furries, Ponylovers, Weaboos, and Hentai dudes Hell all the time. Not because i hate them or think they are bad people, its all in good fun and the internet is a great place to argue about fetishes

The stupidest people in the Internet I've yet seen...

I was reading this topic:
These deaths are disturbing. - Resident Evil 6 Message Board for PlayStation 3 - GameFAQs

It basically starts with few people getting angry with RE6 ryona videos posted to Youtube. Beginning is similar to usual topics made by ryona haters, but somewhere during the discussion there are two guys who TOTALLY lose the line between real world and fiction. There are these two idiots who categorise all ryona fans as criminals with great logic: "people who like ryona also do it in real life". So, these guys are comparing anyone with this fetish to murderers, rapists, wife beaters, etc. Also child porn and pedophiles gets mentioned. There is one guy who is trying to tell these two morons that they are losing it and trying to point out how stupid and wrong they are, which gets them even more angry. The whole discussion is totally unreal, so if you want to laugh hard or just wonder the human stupidity, I suggest reading.

I know it's Gamefaqs, and I'm likely over thinking but still... People like Randy and Worst Regards are the reason I don't tell anyone about my interest in Ryona, I'm always afraid others will jump to the same conclusion that we're all bloodthirsty monsters lurking in alleyways.

I can't think of a way to explain it to others either... the best thing I can say it; it's equivalent watching a slasher film, and enjoying seeing a character get killed because they act like an asshole through the entire film. Or maybe watching a villain die painfully after his plans are thwarted by a hero. People take amusement, satisfaction, and a sort of pleasure out of such scenes. Knowing an event is fake is what allows them, to enjoy watching a character die painfully.
In the same way I feel we enjoy ryona because we know it's fake not in spite of it.

I dunno... maybe I'm just someone who has thin skin, but I can't stand being judged and told I'm some kind of monster when I'm doing everything I can to be a better person.

I'll speak for myself.

It's a fetish that's impossible to explain to someone who doesn't have it. I can understand where these people are coming from. They see a video "glorifying" a woman being beaten so they assume the person making the video hates women when that couldn't be further from the truth (at least for me). I fucking love women. I've got a girlfriend who I go out with, kiss, and do other things with haha. Seeing a women being sexy or getting railed turns me on just like anybody else.

I just also happen to have this fetish that doesn't really make 100% sense, even to me, but that I enjoy in a fictional form (videogames and comics). Now that I think about it, the pain turned into pleasure link in my brain probably comes from the moans when girls in games get hurt. They just sound sexy. And the idea of dominating women (sexually) turns on most men to some degree, so that's probably where the villain overpowering the heroine "turn on" comes from.

but to be honest, some ryona is a bit too extreme even to me. Some people do come off as really sadistic, saying shit in text like "hahaha time do die you fucking whore. I love seeing her get raped and cut up". To me, that IS a bit fucked up.
