Please read the Reference Shot Guide and try to follow it when making Requests.

    • all three of your images are very small, and the third shows heavy compression artifacts. Higher resolution is prefered, because it makes the artist or modder's work less difficult.
    • composited images are not ideal, because they introduce confusion about white balance and lighting details. If there's a clean version of your image available, then use that instead.
    • front views can help to explain the three-dimensional shape of a hairstyle, but your top priority must be side views. If perfect side views are not available, then oblique images (Example, Example) may still be useful.
    • beware of action shots! They're important for establishing the animation behavior of a hairstyle, but that's relevant only if a modder has already decided to create a dynamic hair mod. For a typical PNG hairstyle project, action shots simply add complications for the artist -- they must straighten it out and guess at its proper length.
      • Try to find images in which the character is in a straight-backed resting position. Even a prone image may be useful.
    • be resourceful! If there are few reference images on the usual websites, then expand your search. Here are two framegrabs that I was able to obtain from Youtube videos in less than five minutes. Example, Example
      • if you have access to high-resolution source material (e.g. DVDs) then you can probably do much better. Find an episode in which your character features prominently, then scan through (with your finger on the Pause button) and grab a few profile shots.
    • host your images properly! Those zerochan links are unstable, and the ytimg link will die if the parent video is deleted (which is plausible, since it's a flagrant copyright violation). Request threads sometimes linger for many months before attracting the attention of an artist, so it behooves you to put your reference images in a reliable location.
      • but please don't upload them as attachments to the SDTMods forum. It wastes resources and it's against the rules.
