"Be careful, lest in casting out your demon you exorcise the best thing in you."
Superior and her cyborg sidekick, Geiger, enter Dr. Skullion's lair. They encounter brutal creatures that can deplete Superior's power merely through physically contact with her. Against Geiger's advice, Superior attempts to deal with them by herself. When one of them attempts to rape her, she manages to destroy it, but barely.
"You do not suffer from evil, because you recognize it, but because it affords you secret pleasure"
In the meantime, Dr. Skullion is somehow able to gain control of Geiger and use the cyborg to sexually assault Superior, who is simply too weak to stop the monster. A virtually powerless Superia is then chained and delivered to Sinestra, who delights in punishing her pitiful captive.
"But did you know what evil is, and that it stands precisely right behind your virtues,
that it is also your virtues themselves, as their inevitable substance?"
that it is also your virtues themselves, as their inevitable substance?"
When Superia refuses to obey Sinestra's every whim, the cunning sorceress threatens to kill another superheroine. Finally, Superior surrenders in hopeless despair.

"Unconsciousness is the primal sin. Evil itself for the logos."
According to Jungian theory, to gaze upon the face evil is to descend into your subconscious and confront your own shadow. The shadow is everything about ourselves that we simply don't know exists or we refuse to acknowledge. The purpose of this type of soul searching is not to destroy something evil. Rather, the ultimate goal is to accept what is truly a part of yourself, however repulsive it may seem, and find some way to express it openly.
Butt, as Superior soon learns, liberating your own subliminal desires can be very dangerous, especially if a trickster (Dr. Skullion) is lying in wait to ambush you, and through many years of sexual repression and neglect your personal demons have become wretched. What follows is an unnatural union of animus (male psyche) and anima (female psyche). A brutal violation of chastity that destroys Superior's persona. Instead of a savior of virtue, Superior becomes another helpless victim of cruel fate. Yet, paradoxically, it is as if Superior has not really changed at all.
"One often has dreams which seem destructive and evil, the thing one cannot accept,
but it is merely due to the fact that one's conscious attitude is wrong."
but it is merely due to the fact that one's conscious attitude is wrong."
The heroine that boldly entered Dr. Skullion's lair was self-righteous, and the one who became Sinestra's prisoner is self-pitying. Whereas, a true champion of justice would be more forgiving of others and be more willing to accept responsibility for her own narcissism.
