Tomb Raider Underworld -

d£t already has some videos from this game posted in the "Videos" section. Frankly, Underworld was a major letdown...they eliminated the QTE that made the first few Crystal Dynamics games so fun. Ugh.

I really love that animation when she gets hit from behind then she holds her back before falling, just exposes that nice rack of hers. :D

I might be a total noob about it, but what's QTE?

Anyway, nice vids. One of my odd favorites is her turning to stone. It's one of those you don't quite know why, but it's hot, moments.

QTE = Quick-Time Event. It's a pre-rendered animation where all the player has to do is hit the right button that pops up to get the hero/heroine out of danger. Like when Lara is flying through the air on a motorcycle and the "B" button suddenly flashes on the screen, just hit that button to save her. Wait too long or hit the wrong button and she dies instantly.

The fun of QTE is the great variety of death animations that can happen when you get them wrong. They are such a nice bonus on top of the regular death animations from the game itself, and really gave the new Tomb Raider games a flavor other games just don't have. Unfortunately the TR community (except for me, it seems) was very vocal about hating the QTE sections, always howling for them to come down on the TR forums, and the developer listened in the newest iteration. That's why Underworld sucks...without the QTE, it feels so bland, and the death animations are completely recycled from the earlier games.

It's a case where the developer shouldn't have listened to the fan community, who didn't really know what they wanted. Underworld performed terribly, and almost sank the franchise again. I hope they connect the dots and put the QTE back in, along with other needed changes, for the next game!
